The American Indians practiced thanksgiving celebrations long before Pilgrims arrived on the shores of NA. It was the Natives sharing a tradition with the settlers. Incidentally, Native Americans practiced a nature-based religion, not monotheism. So you could say that Thanksgiving was a way to thank gods.

Did the Native Americans thank the Christian god for bringing them to the land and nearly starving so the Indians had to bail them out?

Like almost all holidays, the Christians try to claim it to spread the dogma.

It was to thank the Native Americans for not killing them and helping them to have an abundant harvest. But if it fits your construct of reality to thank god go for it dude I won't stop you.

Not very much is known of the original Thanksgiving. Considering how deeply religious the Pilgrims were, they likely saw it as a thanks to God more than a thanks to the Indians.
