First, Thanksgiving is not a christian holiday, it's an American holiday. Second, many atheists work on holidays, along with many christians. Most companies are not even open on christmas and easter is always on Sunday. Third, atheists as a whole are more intelligent and educated, thus they are usually working jobs that don't require them to work holidays and weekends, because their companies aren't even open on those days. So, your point is ridiculous, especially asking atheists to do something nice for christians.
Silly christians, myths are for kids.

Why do Xians think that pagan holidays such as Easter and Xmas are actually Xian in origin? Also last time I checked, Thanksgiving wasn't a Xian holiday. Saying grace before stuffing your face full of turkey doesn't make it Xian.
Besides, it's a time to get together with family and friends and you don't have to be Xian to appreciate that.
And when I was working for certain companies I always requested to work on those days. Double time and a half to sit on my ***, eat free food the company sprang for and to play video games because it was completely dead. So I would be making over $60/hr doing absolutely nothing for 8 hours. I'd then head home to dinner with my family.
You gotta admit, it was a good gig.

Probably the same reason most people do. Except for a few we can not know another's heart. We are forced only to judge others by their works. Which is only the porest most superficial way to judge the motavation of others.
A better question could be how many of us realy celebrate Christ at Christmas and the rest of the year?

Those holidays are not of christian origin, but of pagan origin. Actually you should be asking why the Christians have brought over traditions into theirs. Something the bible clearly says not to do. The only holidays in the bible are the 7 feasts.
realize christmas is the same thing as to what happened when Moses went up for the tablets. recall those waiting made a holiday? what happened to them?

Back when I was working for a company and not for myself, I did volunteer to work on holidays. Double time and a half! Way more money on those days! Plus, nobody else in the office so I could get way more work done and listen to my George R. R. Martin audiobooks on my CD player instead of over my headphones!
My family has always spent the evenings of holidays together, anyway, rather than the whole day - so I wasn't missing out on any family traditions, either.
Edited to add: Thanksgiving is not a religious holiday, by the way. I still worked on TG, though. MONEY MONEY MONEY!

~~~ Splinter ,,,, Apparently your Superpowers of Omnipresence or Omniscience have failed to acknowledge my own Altruism that I practice on a Daily Basis without the need for Holidays to inspire me. And you have taken it upon yourself to Display your Prejudice against an Entire Group by claiming we are all Apathetic on YOUR Special Days,,, And then you show your True Colors of Selfishness by trying to Goad Us By Guilt into doing "something nice" for YOU. It seems that I have learned the lessons of Jesus and you have yet to be taught. Your previous statement of "you don't care anyway" is a direct Contradiction to your statement an hour later of " I never said atheists didn't have hearts." This is NOT a matter of Semantics. Regardless of how you rationalize or justify your statements, Shame on thee, cast your stones elsewhere Hypocrite,,,~ Namaste`
Most places are closed on holidays - Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc.
A lot of us do volunteer to work on Christmas and Easter if the workplace is open.
First of all, it's VOLUNTEER.
Thanksgiving is NOT a religious holiday.
There is not much "Christian" in the religious holidays anymore anyway - whens the last time you saw Santa at a manger?
Why should atheists do something for YOU at the holidays?
I know lots of folks who don't celebrate at all, and a Christian Scientist who always works holidays and won't let us celebrate her birthday.
Phhhhhttttt...
I'll take off any day they're willing to give me.
I'll happily celebrate Black Panty Friday, Sweet Monkey Tuesday, and the Feast of Maximum Occupancy.
I don't care if someone else considers the day religious or not. To me a day off is a day off.
