lets take a trip back in time, about 10 years will be good.
in the USA, durring the holiday season at the end of the year, we got xmas, hanukkah, and all the others. everyone puts up there own decorations at the office, at home, on cars, everywhere, just to be cheery and waste some money to have fun. no one cared, it was a blast, a time to be happy. but now, since religion had to screw everything up, and people becoming more anal and wanting to be politically correct and have good public relations, its like its all banned, rephrased and given new words that dont say the same things but we know what it really is. have u all learned nothing from south park (if you dont know what im talking about, look up all the xmas episodes and holiday episodes). so are you really offended by any of the decorations and all that stuff?
(this goes for every holiday, religious or not or if you think they are religious or not)

gary 7: the point is, durring whatever holiday you celebrate whatever, from whatever culture you come from, you can just put up your thing with out someone going, OH MY F*CKING GOD!!! someone could find your happiness offensive, you better take that down. a few years ago, no one cared, a few years ago, if it was your holiday, you could ether stay at home or leave early. you could put it up. then after its all said and done, you take it down. there is no sense in anyone getting butt-hurt about it.

I think it has gotten way out of hand. As an atheist, I have never been offended by someone telling Merry Xmas, or calling anything a Xmas tree instead of "holiday bush" lol. And now they have a problem with Santa saying HO HO HO. How ridiculous. I can totally see them renaming the Christmas Break to Winter Break, and Easter Break to Spring Break in schools. Simply because you have a variety of religions attending, and IMHO, religion has no place in school (public). Not much offends me, but people trying to make everything so PC is really grating on my nerves!

Contrary to the claims of the Bill O'Reilleys of the world, there is no concerted effort by anyone to ban Christmas.
I find it amazing that Christians got so mortally offended last year when certain stores started saying "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas". Evidently they assumed that Christmas was the only holiday of the winter, that other religions didn't count, or that there was some kind of "war" on Christmas in general.
It was all about stores trying to appeal to people who weren't Christians. They really do exist, you know. Acknowledging that fact doesn't hurt anyone.
I wonder what would happen if Ramadan really did demand equal time? I'll bet that the Christians would rise up in a screaming, frothing-at-the-mouth mob to stop it.

I was with you until you said "since religion had to screw everything up"
I'm 45, and I remember the Ten Commandments coming on NETWORK TV every year, and I remember the Apollo Astronauts quoting scripture as they circled the moon.
I remember in school we had Christmas holiday and Easter holiday, not "Spring Break". I played in a Christmas play in elementary school.
I remember the Nativity Scene at the gate of the Air Force base my dad was stationed at. You won't see THAT anymore. I remember a lot more than you do.

Nope I never found it offensive, save for one time, (back in the 80's) when my public school had a 4 hour assembly on the "real meaning of Christmas" where they actually tried to get to sign cards saying that we had accepted Christ in our hearts but even that was mostly just annoying I didn't sue or anything).

Honestly, i always like seeing the decorations, it shows that people have some spirit and that they're sharing it with you. I can't see why it would be offensive to people. Why should it matter? As long as the people arent putting others down, why not just embrace it, enjoy it.

personally, even though i am a liberal atheist, i find it all stupid. i don't see why someone using the word christmas can be insulting. I wrote, for my school, a choral peice that used the words "christmas," "noel," and "savior" and htye told that that even though it was very good, they couldn't use it becuase it didn't include all religions/holidays. you are quite right, religion/political correctness has screwed everything up!

It just changed. Instead of Christmas decorations, there are holiday decorations. Instead of "Merry Christmas" it is "Happy Holidays". The intent is still there. It is what you make of it.
It is ridiculous to be offended by the labeling of a vacation, decoration, or a saying. Therefor it is ridiculous to be offended by Holiday decorations in stead of Christmas. It is ridiculous to be offended by Happy Holidays rather then Merry Christmas. Let everyone celebrate in a way that emphasizes our common goodness, rather then our religion.

I don't find it offensive personally to see other people's holiday decorations. However, the whole purpose of religious-neutral decorations is to make people feel welcome no matter what their beliefs are. It is awfully presumptuous to assume that others celebrate Christmas, or Hanukkah, etc. True, people don't have the right to NOT be offended in the U.S.A., but on the other hand it's just rude to assume that everybody around you thinks the same way you do.
I don't see neutral decorations as an attempt to not offend, but rather an attempt to make all people feel welcome and considered.
