eccliasties (sp) read the "there is a time for everything" passage. I think in chapter 3. I read that at my brother's funeral.

A lot of people do read the 23rd psalm. I also like hte beatitudes in the new testament.

Psalm 16:8-10 (New International Version)
New International Version (NIV)

8 I have set the LORD always before me.
Because he is at my right hand,
I will not be shaken.

9 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;
my body also will rest secure,

10 because you will not abandon me to the grave,
nor will you let your Holy One see decay.

Psalm 91 is really really good. I have memorized it, and it is just really encouraging, especially for something like a funeral where death is so near, it gives a whole new look at things! and my sympathy to you and yours! God bless!

Psalm 139 talks about how God created us in such a delicate manner that at our death we know that he who created us in such a remarkable way will also resurrect us into ever lasting life.

Be blessed

Psalm 23 is pretty good.

The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name' sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: For thou art with me;
Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies;
Thou annointest my head with oil; My cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever.
