make sure that you put the iar bleed hole in the thermostat at 12:00 when you put it in. it will overheat if you don't. other than that, remove your water pump and make sure the impeller is still attached. make sure your belt is routed correctly and not spinning the water pump backwards. anything with a 4.0 is terrible about rust building up in the radiator. regular flushing will not remove it. you would have to take it to a radiator shop and have the tanks removed to clean it, or just replace the whole radiator. they are so cheap for those, with an overheating problem on a 12 year old jeep i would just replace it. they are a little over $100.

You say you flushed the radiator but how about the external? Jeeps especially, since a lot of them are used where it's extremely dusty have the spaces between the cooling fins clogged. You need air to move between the fins to dissapate the heat they get from the engine coolant. Also check the hoses. A soft lower hose can collapse, under load, restricting water flow. Check the water pump. If the vanes are worn down from corrosion it will not move enough water. Also check the fan. If it's electric make sure it comes on. If it's mechanical, make sure the belt is in good shape and adjusted properly and that the fan clutch isn't shot. Any or all of these can cause/contribute to overheating, so all should be checked and certified. Good luck.

I was thinking also water pump not working up to snuff, and possibly the thermostat was to small, not in size , but in how they have difference in how much heat they take.I geuss it could be a lose belt too, buit doubt it is that obvious.

Bad water pump, clogged coolant passages (kinda doubt that).
