There is no such thing as a reasonable car. They are all bad investments and simply tools to go from point a to b. Thus, the least amount spent the better. The best buys are those with history of long life, and previous good maintenance. Find a well cared for Toyota Corolla, or Camry and you'll be very pleased. New, try the Taurus, they are desperate to sell them, they are finally a pretty decent car and well priced at the moment (new less than $11,000) when you deal.

Geo/Chevy Prizm

Its a rebadged Toyota Corolla-identical in every way to the Corolla, its even made by Toyota.

Very reliable and dirt cheap just because of the name on them.

If youre buying new, look at Fords. Theyre doing way better than Toyotas and Hondas in Consumer Reports and most other reviews.

Look for the CR list of best used cars, they do it by value. The last gen of the Ford Escort was in the under 10k category, so were a few Saturn S series.

Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Honda Prelude, Honda CRX, Toyota MR2, TOyota Celica, Nissan Sentra, Nissan Altima, Chevrolet Corsica

All very reliable cars, most are cheap and good on gas, some even have a little bit of pep to them.
Good Luck

Go with a Honda or Toyota but only after a good mechanic checks it out and gives you the okay. Once you own it down drive it hard. The easier you are on it the longer you'll have it.

used Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla or like vehicle. They are cheap, good on gas and reliable. Scion is also good since it is a Toyota. Try to but from private party as they are cheaper but only if you know the seller.

HONDA CIVIC...............

The best way to negotiate with the dealer is to determine the wholesale price by contacting your loan officer at a local bank or credit union, providing all the details about the vehicle (make, model, year, trim line, accessories, mileage), and asking for the vehicle’s “black book value.”

That’s the amount the bank lends to dealers to buy that car (yes, dealers take out car loans, too), and it’s the closest thing you can get to wholesale value for the vehicle.

honda civic and toyotal corolla, .
consumer reports offers a service, you
tell them the car you want, options and they show you the
price of the car the dealership paid, not the sticker price
on the windshield door. also, shopping for a new car when
its rainy and bad weather, there will be no deals on the board...
good luck.
