Just milk is fine. Or if I have vegan visitors, I use some of the potato cooking water. It's really just to moisten the potatoes, so any liquid works. I don't usually use butter, especially if the potatoes will have sauce or gravy poured over them..

Whatever kind of cream you bought will work just fine. It is a consistency issue. If you use water or milk you naturally would use less because it is thinner. Just add in you butter and mash, then add in your cream and continue to whip them until you reach the consistency you are looking for. Should be awesome.

Good luck!

When I make mashed potatoes I don't use cream I add milk, butter, some cream cheese, sour cream, some salt, and a dash of mustard and mix. Comes out nice and creamy.

I just use hot milk. With butter, salt and a little sour cream. I guess you could use heavy cream or 1/2 & 1/2 also. Good luck. I'm sure they'll taste great. Happy Thanksgiving.
