Honest. I'm absolute honest. I didn't know how many people think it's a cult.

Actually I did know that. And not only are they Christian, but they seem to know what is taught by Christ far more than the rest.

You know what's the difference between a religion and a cult? The amount of members you have and the length of time it's been around. Once you have enough people and several generations have passed, it's pretty much a religion at that point.

Xianity started out as a cult, same with Islam and just about any other religion you want to mention. It took time and a lot of members for it to be recognised as a bona fide religion.

Having said that, Moronism.... I mean MorMonism is a pretty freaky version of Xianity. It's actually a combination of North American sprit worship mixed in with Jeebus.

For Mormons to be Christian, they would have to have the same understanding of the person of Christ as described in the Holy Bible. That means they would recognise his divinity, that he was ETERNALLY the Son of God, that he is to be worshipped as God, Lord and Saviour.

I understand that Mormon beliefs about the Creator God, Jehovah and Jesus bear no resemblance to what is in my Bible.

For Mormons to be Christian, they would have to accept that there were no prophets after Jesus - that he introduced a New Covenant through his shed blood and that, when he gave up his spirit on the cross and cried out "It is done" he meant exactly that.

I understand that Mormons believe Joseph Smith was a prophet and that he received additional revelations from the angel Moroni (hope I've got that right), and that the Holy Bible is therefore incomplete.

If Mormons were Christians, they would know that baptisms for the dead is a pagan belief, and denounced in the Holy Bible. If Mormons were Christians, they would know that to claim God had sexual intercourse in order to reproduce was blasphemy. I could go on. There's lots more. But you get the point? Having said all that, the Mormons I have known are lovely people, and I have nothing against them personally. But Christian? NO WAY.

The God of Mormonism is a different God than followed by mainstream Christians.

The Mormon God has a body of flesh and bones. (Doctrine and Covenants 130:22).
The Christian God is a spirit (John 4:24) and a spirit does not have flesh and bones (Luke 24:39).

The Mormon God was resurrected. "...an immortal, or resurrected and glofified, Father;" Articles of Faith, Talmage, p. 473).
The Christian God has never died. Jesus died (John 3:16, Romans 8:3).

The Mormon God used to be a man and people can become gods. (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pps.
346-347)
The Christian God says there is only one God. (Isaiah 46:9)

Mormons believe, God is a material creature who was once a
man as we are now men.
They "claim" to have new scripture and the writings of Joseph
Smith are divinely inspired revelations ------- God's nineteeth century additions to the Bible.

Man is progressively becoming a god. Mormons teach that Adam's sin in Eden was neccessary for the spirit children of
God who were ready and waiting for the experience of earth life.

Salvation comes by works and all men will spend eternity on some level of a multistoried heaven. The level will be determined by the scope of each man's good works.

They are a religion based on man's word not on God's Word.

I don't like to throw the term cult around...but if mormons were exactly like other christians there would be no need for the question.

Mormons believe that all other forms of christianity on the earth went apostate...so, it's a bit of a stretch to frame the question the way you did. In a sense, mormons believe that the rest of christianity is a cult (or whatever other term you'd like to ascribe to apostates).

I know that Mormons are not any more a cult than any other religion is a cult. I also know that they actually are a Christian religion.

I always find it funny that other christian groups are so quick to say that Mormons are not Christians. Funny - last time I checked, Mormons believe that no one gets to the Father but through Christ. They also believe all the rest of the Christian mythos. The only thing they believe differently from other Christians is that Jesus took a detour to the Americas to preach for a while before heading up to Heaven. I guess that is enough to make them non-Christian, eh?

I think the word "cult" is overused. I disagree with you on many issues, but to call the Mormons a cult, I believe is a stretch. I fear for your salvation, though. It is my impression that Mormons believe that they are saved by being Mormon, and by works, or by having a Mormon save you, but the Bible teaches that we are saved through Christ alone.

Salvation is a free gift. He paid our price for us. We need to accept his free gift in order to be saved.

Rom 10:9-13 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Did you know that Christianity is not a religion?

I know that mormons devoutly believe they are not a cult. I know they spend most of their time defending their beliefs.

I also know that said beliefs do not square with the Bible used by the rest of the world.

The rank-and-file mormon is not to be blamed for believing what they've been told to believe. That doesn't make it true.

No, Mormons are a cult.

It is a "secret society". Why can only "certain" people go into their temple? Sounds pretty "secret" to me....Cult.
