Though I was given medication for this, she said that I should control my diet better and not eat so much food with high cholesterol. I'm told that if I'm not careful I could end up with a stroke if I don't follow this advice. So can anyone tell me how I stand with the following food (that usually eat regularly);

BACON, EGGS, BAKED BEANS, CURRY, PORK CHOPS, FRENCH FRIES, FRIED CHICKEN, BREAD, STIR FRY.

She warned me about cheese and pies but that was all.

Thanks Dee. That will just about take the fun out of my life, but I appreciate the answer.

I've taken note of all that's been said, but I don't think my weight is too much of an issue. I don't get so much exercise now as I used to, due to an accident last year, I have trouble with my knee and can't walk far without pain. I'm 5'6" and weigh 154lbs, which I consider is OK, I"ve never been much off that weight, even when I was working. But I do like a beer, and having read one of the answers it seems as if that might contribute to my problem. (Ouch).

And thank you, Bob, you've cheered me up no end.

It looks as if my usual brekky (eggs, fried tomatoes, bacon (grilled) and waffles, is a no-go as well, then. Ain't life a *****?

Here is a better diet and I am afraid the things you have listed are probably not on the list ......if you eat these regularly it explains the high result...

Eggs are high in cholesterol try egg substitute, beans are good, curry isn't an issue, bacon, pork chops and chicken baked not fried. Bread make it whole wheat and skip the fried if you can. Anything that tastes good is pretty much what you need to avoid. I never heard of avoiding cheese.. that is dairy.. but any kind of baked goods is bad.. and of course if you exercise and lose weight that will help get the numbers down too.

Well....you'd better forget about that lot!!

Baked beans are ok, but better start using brown or wholemeal bread, brown rice etc, Cut out most of your fried stuff! It doesn't mean altogether....just cut down on it and have it in moderation. Boiled and baked potatoes are fine, but avoid roasters or chips. Have plenty of oily fish. i.e; mackerel, salmon etc. Try having porridge for breakfast! This is great for bringing down cholesterol levels....and its filling too!! Have plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, but above all, keep an eye on your weight, as this is often a contributor.

You've just hit the cholesterol jackpot with that lot!.......... all that and no fibre!

I assume you are now on daily Statins and Aspirin, which should help a bit.

Just to cheer you up, after a lifetime of exercise and reasonably healthy eating......... and a cholesterol average of 4.2 mmO............ I had to undergo a gallbladder removal.

Now many think that the majority of gallbladder removals are the result of alcohol and drug abuse........... and you would be right!............. but, apart from the odd beer and the odd glass of red wine, I was never in the alcohol abuse league!.......... and I can get high on aspirin!.......... so much for the junkie bit.............

So much for that!

4 years after the gallbladder removal my arteries had furred up enough to provoke a series of heart attacks.

Forget the strokes, the cardiac arrest will get you first!............ if you do not change your diet, toot sweet!

Not a very healthy diet, such food should be eaten in moderation. Cut down to such things once a week and with the medication your cholesterol level shoul decrease.

You don't need to eat less fat, just better fats. Instead of frying with canola or butter, try coconut oil. Flax seed is also rich in Omega 3, as well as salmon. If all possible, avoid factory farmed meat, which contain unhealthy levels of Omega-6, and consume instead grassfed meats, which contain Omega-3 and CLA.
