Atheists and agnostics: If a religious person asks for your prayer in a time of need, do you pray to their god, do you just say you are going to pray and then don't, or do you tell them that you won't pray because you don't believe.

Religious folk: If someone of a different religion asks you to pray, do you pray to their god or yours?

Just a little curious, thanks :)

During all my years as an atheist, I don't think I have ever refused to pray for someone when asked, nor have I refused a prayer offered to me.

Regardless of one's beliefs, I see this as a loving, caring gesture that should be accepted and performed with grace.

I am religious and I would pray to my God because in my heart I know that my God can only fix what is wrong in that person's life!!

If somebody is asking for prayer, I figure I have enough of a divine spark in me to try to help them answer it. If their problem lies in this world, I'll generally help them in this world. Sometimes, all somebody needs is a shoulder to cry on or an ear to listen; I'm capable of both at the moment. I can also give people things like money, food, counsel, and various other things. But no, I don't pray for them. I'll help them imagine a positive outcome for their situation, I'll try to show peace, I'll help if I can, but I don't pray to some gaseous vertebrate in the sky somewhere, (and certainly not one who drowns his children for misbehaving if they happen to be christian).

It depends on the person, the problem and my mood.
I think that prayer is for you - you focus on the positive and that works somehow. But it is always to your God, you can't pray with all your heart to some other God you don't believe.

There is only one God, therefore I pray to Him. I will NEVER pray to a statue or something of the sort, and it would be unfair to ask someone to do so.

We've been told that God has a plan for everyone...so by praying, theists believe that their god will deviate from his master plan, in order to cater to their whims....

If that's not arrogant, then what is?

PS: Besides, what's the use of praying since God knows what we are thinking and what will happen?
