I would like to get my sister a subscription to a cooking magazine for Christmas. She LOVES to cook and is very good at it - so the recipes don't have to be super easy or anything. However, I also don't want a magazine that is overly complicated, very gourmet, etc. Any help would be appreciated. THANKS!

Get her Saveur!! The recipes can be a little wild sometimes, but it's a beautifully done magazine, they travel all over the world and do stories about foods native to certain lands, and, well...it's just a great magazine! Honestly, I prefer reading the stories to doing the actual cooking. All the recipes I've ever made from the issues I get (it's 7 issues per year--one issue every two months, plus a bonus "top 100" issue) have been wonderful, although many of them are ethic foods from other countries, and many of them call for speciality ingredients. They're not ALL like this, though. The last issue was all about pizza and Southern cooking. I've been a subscriber for over two years, now.

Good cooking is good cooking no matter how old a person is. If your sister already has skills she may appreciate a cookbook with good old traditional recipes. These books often include tricks and techniques that are great for all kinds of cooking. I don't mean to offen here but gormet cooking is often only appreciated by few. Sometimes a person has to aquire a taste for some gormet food. I have found that young people into cooking get a kick out of the "way back" recipes. I'm not talking roast tongue or hagus here....I have founf most people enjoy old fashioned beef stew, pot roast with carrots and potatoes, salsbury steak with mushrooms and onions, lasagna, chicken dumpling soup....
Happy Thanksgiving

My first thought was Bon Appetit, but it's gotten too gourmet over the years and has less recipes than 15 years ago. How about Rachael Ray's magazine? That's what I got my 23 year old daughter in law last Christmas and she loves it.

I like the magazine "Real Simple". It's not just about cooking, but has lots of different things in it. Check it out at a newstand. It's a magazine I'd love to be given a subscription to!

i loved the mag "Taste of Home". and highly recommend it.
very packed full of lots of recipes, from preserves, appetizers and snacks, sandwiches, soups, main dishes, deserts, beverages, breads and rolls, breakfast and brunch, condiments, cookies and bars, salads and dressings, and side dishes.
It really is a great magazine and well worth the money. my grandmother gave me the subscription.
there is also a lot of other information and reading, besides just all recipes.

Fine cooking is best for the basic recipes and they really explain the cooking techniques in detail.
