I see it differently than most of the people who have responded. When I think of traditional morality I think about families with a mother and father who live together, but were married first. I think about one of the parents being home with the children when they arrive home from school. Parents who discipline their children. I'm not meaning "beating" kids with belts, but I don't think that a spaking is such a bad idea when the situation warrants such a "lesson". In a traditional moral family setting, the family ate dinner together, talked together. Too many of us don't take this kind of time to get to know our kids, unfortunately I fall into this category myself. I understand that this is not always possible, but all to often it is a choice not a necessity. Is the nicer car worth it? Do your young kids think so?
I remember a time not long ago when the sexual conquests of our President were not headlines. My kids asked me about oral sex before they were 6 years old. Is this progress?
I miss the times when people took responsibility for their own actions. When men didn't leave their wives and kids at the first sign of trouble. Marriage is hard! It takes work and it seems to me that not nearly enough people know what it means to work on a relationship, or are not willing to do what it takes. This is what traditional values I think of when asked this question.
With out a doubt there have been necessary changes that have taken place over history, but it is a shame that at the same time we have lost so much.

In my opinion (Reform), the creation story is the "foreword" to our story about the relationship between God and His people, Israel. Others have borrowed our Bible (Tanakh) and have created a "new" story (NT) imposing our laws and traditions on others, giving the impression that the Jews were evil and required God's intervention by condemning His own son to an excrutiatingly painful death on the cross. There is much metaphor and allegory in our Bible. I suspect there must be metaphor and allegory in the Christian Bible (NT) as well. If it's "traditional" that you want, go with allonyoav! .

Ah I remember that question.
The problem with traditional morality is that we've come a LONG WAY. 100 years ago, women didn't have equal rights. 50 years ago, blacks didn't have equal rights. Right now, gays don't have equal rights!
I'd rather not be pulled back into the stone age.

Traditional morality? As a male WASP, I think it's a smashing idea.

I think morality is actually getting better, now that more people are turning to atheism ... and Pantheism :).
