After 30+ years in the business and more as a hobbiest I have tried to boil down the meaning of images. I have come to three basic conclusions. Because you are in a specific place recording what you see, here's what I interpet, all technical aspecs aside....
#1...I was there and this is what I saw.
#2...I was there and here's a detail of something you might not have noticed.
#3...I was there and this is what I felt...opening an area for artistic interpetation and effects.
Now there are a bunch of mature, intelligent and experienced people out there and I would love to make additions to this list, so I need your input.

Scratch the concept of your first three words "I was there........I saw, I felt" and let your photo take them there and let them feel.
Have something in the foreground and a main subject in the background and use leading lines and shadows to lead them through the photo to the main subject. Side lighting works best for this.
Controlling the available light means everything. Photography literally means painting with light. Good Luck.
