Will we have a world war 3? What will it be about?

This question seems to be cropping up a lot recently.

As long as intelligent people dread the thought of wiping out humanity, which is most certainly the result of a WW III, as long as that specter looms above every head of state, then, in my opinion, we will never have a WW III.

The danger comes when we have individuals who are either too stupid to see the specter, or they're too insane to care. I'm thinking about the President of Iran. He thinks that a limited nuclear strike is possible. I don't see it.

When Russia was trying to station missiles in Cuba, President Kennedy said that the United States would consider an attack in any country in the western hemisphere an attack by Russia on the United States, and that we would retaliate accordingly. That could have stared WW III, but Russian leadership was intelligent enough to realize the consequences of their actions and removed the missiles.

But we have a few small, unstable nations with rather ignorant leadership, or with leadership that my see the consequences but just doesn't care. I'm thinking specifically of the president of Iran.

A dictatorship is the worst fear. One person can order a strike and there is nobody that can stop him... or even with the authority to advise him to reconsider.

If it starts, it will be about some moron thinking he can get away with it, or that nobody would dare do anything about it, or who doesn't care.

The outcome of the war will be devastating. Those who are at a ground zero will be the lucky ones. They will be instantly vaporized. Those within the immediate blast effect will be killed too, but they may have a few seconds to see it coming.

Those who hide in shelters might be reasonably safe... until their food and water runs out. Then they'll have to leave their shelters to find food. What will they find? If they're within about 15-20 miles of ground zero, they'll find rubble... nothing but rubble... highly radioactive rubble. A few seconds of exposure to that environment will seal their fates. They are going to die. Had they remained in their shelters, they may have starved to death. Now they are going to die of radiation.

If they live within between 20 and maybe 50 miles, they may find some remnants of structures, probably most will be somewhat intact. But, except for a few like themselves, who were protected from the blast and immediate after affects, they will find most are terribly burned and probably blinded. The burns are probably not from the heat, but from the radiation. They'll die a little sooner than those who were in shelters... but the same fate awaits everybody.

Food? Water? That's why one would leave shelter. Any food is irradiated from the blast or immediate fallout, or from eating food that was irradiated from those causes. The same will be true of water.

I would guess, as politically incorrect as it may seem, people will resort to cannibalism. They might seek shelters where the inhabitants had just starved to death. The food will be free of radiation. However, as people search for food, they are subjected to the radiation in the environment.

Suppose, somehow, you were able to find food and water. Well, from the explosions, a lot of radioactive dust has been blown into the atmosphere. Some of it will be too heavy to stay up there long and will fall as radioactive fallout. But there will be enough light stuff that will be blown into the jet streams and be carried around the world. That dust will block the light of the Sun. The temperature will drop. The entire Earth will be plunged into what is called a "nuclear winter." Anybody unfortunate enough to have made it long will have to find ways of heating themselves. Probably they'll burn wood... right? Unfortunately, the wood will have been irradiated. So they'll breath the smoke from those cheery fires and essentially microwave themselves from the inside out. It doesn't make any difference what fuel you burn... nothing is safe.

Oh, don't forget the more common causes of death. Without sanitation disease will be rampant.

Everybody is going to die. Some will go in a blinding flash of heat and light. Some will be crushed by debris. Some will starve or die of some disease. But most will just slowly cook from the radiation.

I'm lucky. I live near a large city, an Air Base, and a missile site. If the sirens every go off, or if the missiles launch... I'm going outside and lie back in a lawn chair. And I'll hope the guy who started it will be one of the "survivors."

It could be 28 minutes from now or 280 years from now. When the superpowers square off against each other in two camps, then come back and we'll talk world war 3.

Until then, just think regional conflicts, wars between rump states, proxy wars and brinksmanship. If you recall the Yom Kippur War in 1973, a coalition of Arab States (Egypt, Syria and Jordan) were soundly defeated by the Israelis. That was a worse situation than the current conflict and it didn't raise a blip on the world war radar (not that it didn't have the potential to spark a global war).

The next World War will involve a nuclear exchange, how could it not. In the first 30 minutes, nearly a billion people will have been vaporised, mostly in the US, Russia, Europe, China and Japan. Another 1.5 billion will die shortly thereafter from radiation poisoning. The northern hemisphere will be plunged into prolonged agony and barbarity.

Eventually the nuclear winter will spread to the southern hemisphere and all plant life will die. You ask when will we have a WW3, you are asking when will we commit global suicide. My answer is it won't happen soon because the larger superpowers are more rational than the rump states in the middle east.

Our biggest risk is an accidental launch of nukes by one of the nuclear powers.

A Three World War scenario was developed several decades ago (see Conspiratorial History). Two World Wars have already been achieved, and the Third and final World War envisions an attack on Iraq, Iran and/or Syria as being the trigger to set the entire Middle East into fiery conflagration. Once America is firmly entrenched into the Middle East with the majority of her first-line units, North Korea is to attack South Korea. Then, with America's forces stretched well beyond the limit, China is to invade Taiwan. This will usher in the start of World War Three.

World War Definition:
What constitutes a 'world war'? How many countries need to be involved? And who decides at which point a number of regional skirmishes can be grouped together and called a World War? At the time, who called the official start of World War 1 and World War 2?

And have you noticed that although the term 'World War Three' is freely used in the alternative press and on the Internet, all the major news networks have stoically avoided using any phrase reminiscent of World War.

Since it's difficult to find a definition for an event which has only happened twice in modern history, here's my attempt at an answer to the question 'what constitutes a world war'?

A World War is a military conflict spanning more than 2 continents, in which at least 20 major countries participate in an attack against a common enemy, and which has the attention of the man-in-the-street due to the significant loss of life.

With that definition, we can agree that WW1 and WW2 were in fact World Wars (both wars involved some degree of participation from most of the world's then existing countries: Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United States and the Soviet Union). We can also agree that we are very close to achieving World War 3. The only requirement left to fulfill the start of WW3 is that of a military conflict spanning more than 2 continents. As soon as Israel attacks Palestine, or North Korea attacks South Korea or the US, or China invades Taiwan, we will have the next World War well underway.

World War 3 Timeline
These are, I believe, the elements of the planned Third World War:

Prelude - The events leading up to the start of World War Three, including Sept 11, 2001.
Act 1 - The Middle East. Widespread conflict to bring the entire region into the flames of war, possibly triggered by Iran or militants in Pakistan using North Korean supplied nuclear arms. The first Scene in this Act is the US Invasion of Iraq on March 20, 2003.
Act 2 - Israel at War -- Against her Arab neighbors, possibly Palestine. A Palestinian State will be established, so that all Israelis will be fully separated from Palestinians (listen out for mention of a 7-year treaty to be confirmed by a World Leader - probably Bush), only for Israel to viciously attack Palestine shortly thereafter.
Act 3 - Far East -- "Hair-raising nuclear confrontation that threatens mankind's existence" - Peter Lemesurier, author of The Armageddon Script, p. 223, written in 1981. Includes China invading Taiwan and a nuclear eruption on the Korean Peninsula.
Act 4 - Erosion of Confidence in 'The System' so severe citizens will be panicked into giving up liberties and Constitutional form of government. The plan calls for the dissolution of the US Constitution, triggered by a significant enough 'terrorist' attack. The ultimate intent is to introduce a global government and one-world religion.
Act 5 - The collapse of the US, and other Western economies and morals.

Act 6 - Significant population reduction using natural and man-made disasters.
Curtain. Who can tell how this war will end?

In many ways we can see the possibilities developing little by little that could bring us into a WW 3. The war could be fought over natural resources, production rights and capabilities or even land.
