Don't know, but I DO NOT think she should have been harshly punished for being rape. Allah forbid she was raped because she was/is Shia. If that was the case, I hope those m-----f--kers rot in hell. You don't do that anyone.
Fine the woman, send her on her way and lash the rapists and put their @$$es in jail.
Tired of these weak @$$ so-called men blaming women for their poor behavior.

No, a few years ago a situation happened even more appalling than this. A fire broke out in an all girls school in
Riyadh...I think it was there. Anyway it was in Saudi Arabia.
The girls where not fully covered in the class with the all female staff and students..those who get not go back to get there outer coverings were not permitted to leave by firemen and police and burned to death. These were Sunni students. This is true story and Amnesty International has listed King Abdullah high on it's list of dictators. If the girl was a Sunni and a member of a very affluent family or the Monachary itself
absolutely not. The media attention may help her plight but it is doubtful. Can anyone imagine the president of the United States admonishing his political friend and ally? I have seen victims here in the States victims of rape by powerful rich families go unpunished and the victims accused of "asking for it". Even the penalties to them were nowhere near as severe. The Saudi Government will view this as trivial. All we can do is pray for her. Allah SWT is powerful in his wisdom and is swift with justice so may all our prayers be heard Inshallah.
Wasalaam

No I don't think she was punished for being a Shia. I think both Sunni and Shia are lost because ALLAH(SWT) and Muhammad(PBUH*) both said "Don't divide into sects because we will be like the Christians and Jews. ALLAH(Subhanna wa ta'ala) specifically says that religious sects are forbidden in Islam. She was punished because she broke one of the laws of Saudi Arabia and was alone in the car with a non mahram man. And she angered the judge by trying to bring the media into the trial.

Dear Ma'm,
The shiite girl that was raped is not the first instance that a the rape victim got punished. There are several instance that a rape victim got punished for defending herself from rape and other aggression. There was this case of a maid working for an arab family, she was raped several times by her male employer then finally decided to defend herself killing that perverted arab man. The rape victim was prosecuted and setenced to death. Fortunately for her, her government intervened and settled her death sentence conditioned that she will pay blood money and recieve lashes. She complied and was released. That is just one case that a rape victim because of defending herself paid blood money and received lashes. However, there are also cases that rape victims in the same circumstance were not lucky enough to be freed under the same conditions and eventually received the death penalty for the reason that they defended themselves from rape and other aggressions.
It sounds wrong and illogical but that fact, that practice, that court decision is prevalent in the mid-east region. Sad but true Ma'm.

I think she was punished for exactly what the Saudi authorities say she was punished for. She was somewhere she wasn't supposed to be, with men she was not supposed to be with, and afterward, instead of taking her appeal to the proper authority, she went to the media, obviously hoping to create international sympathy for herself. It backfired, it seems. Allah subha'ana wa ta'ala knows best, and all things are subject to His disposal...
