Hello,

There are four official languages - French, Italian, German and Romansh (like old Latin).

Cheers,

Everyone is right about the 4 languages. German in Switzerland is really Swiss-German (a German dialect), which is writen exactly like German officially, but the accent, grammar and some words are different. It's spoken by about 65% of the population, whilst French is about 20%, Italian about 10% and Romansh is about 5%

Most Germans have a hard time understanding Swiss-German, and some argue whether it should be classed as its own language and not a dialect. But remember, Swiss-German is writen exactly like German, but the spoken language is just a problem for Germans!

I've heard that if you have learnt German or it is your native language, learning the Swiss-German dialect isn't difficult and takes little time at all.

actually there isn't an official language there.
it depends on which border you are.

on the north east , they speak German,

on the North west , people speak French 'it is also called the 'swiss remond'

in the south, people speak Italian, because it shares borders with Italy, naturally!!!

in the mids, people speak what is called 'Romanch' which is descedant from German '

people call it 'hoch deutch 'or 'higher deutch'=German, it's way different from the German spoken in Germany.
