I know some of you people that are against illegal Immigration or even against immigrants are going to hate me or delete my question( i dont really care since im not insulting anyone) but really , 1. whats soo good about being an American? Yes, I have freedom of speach, but who really cares what I have to say? If people here only delete my points of view? Does my president care, no he doesnt??? 2. I have the right to vote. Do I really pick out my president?? As far as I know, something went wrong during president Bush's re election in Floriday, wow , hmmm. 3. I have the right to enlist in the military and defend my country. Go over to fight for something that I dont even know what it is?? they were supposed to go over there to find Osama, and went somewhere else, I dont mean to offend anyone in the military. But enlisting in the military is because you want to defend your country. I really admire them for being there, but I also have seen the ones that come back from Iraq injured

4. I pay taxes. Wow, Im paying taxes for all of those lazy Americans that just feel like staying home watching talk shows, smoking and having kids every year. But hey, im paying taxes and Im proud of it. ( for the people that say that Illegal Immigrants dont pay them)

5. Yes, Im a Born American Citizen guys. Its just that some of you LOVE this country so much, think you are very well educated in this issue (Immigration) but dont even knwo what you are talking about. I too love this country, but I look at everything. These people comming from all over the world illegaly arent here because they want to take away your jobs, or your money and Im saying most of them not all. We should be realistic not haters. They just want to be here to make a better living just like any of us. And many immigrants are enlisted in the army too.
Dont be so mean to them.

To Amnesty Failing us... The ones that enlisted in the army way before this dumb war, did it because they never knew that our very intelligent president would do this. Probably you dont know anyone in the military now. I do, and trust me they arent proud of it, they just cant leave, they dont have the FREEDOM of doing it, or they will get sent to jail. Thank YOU>

Being American is more than what you get or what you can do. It's more than who's President or whether you agree or disagree with the way this country is going.

Seems too many have this view that's 100% total freedom to do whatever you feel like without regard to others or rule of law. Guarenteed financial success and money, money, money.

It's not. It's also not perfect ,or always right for everyone.....or for every culture.

Right now our country is going through some serious problems. This is not the America I knew or grew up in. It frankly has become a nightmare I am not happy with. Everything is to excessive extreems, greed is rampent and I could go on and on. But it means so much to me that I would fight to the end for what this country was ment to be and what our founding Fathers intended it to be. There is no place on Earth I would rather be or no-place else I would want to "escape" to.....even though I don't like what's going on now.

You have the right to free speech.....doesn't mean people will listen or that just because you spoke it means everyone has to agree with you. Your free speech right doesn't give you the right to silence others who have a different point of view or threaten them to silence. Or whine about "being offended" at every turn.

I don't agree with all times we were in war......be glad you get a choice now to serve.....you used to not have a choice. War isn't a picnic. It's something that isn't pretty and countless people suffer. You hope those who govern take that move seriously. And you honor those who serve.

Last I knew.....there is no state of perfection on this planet. I know no other government who planned to make it as close to perfection as possible either, for it's citizens. I don't appreciate illegals comming in here wanting to tear apart the very fabric that made it work......or others who simply want the benefit without the work.

This form of government requires some self control and self regulation in order for it not to be military control. It requires tolerance in order for anyone to have freedom. And common sense to know when to make a big deal and when to bite your lip. There's a huge difference between what you don't like and what is true injustice. It is not for people who are so rigid they cannot tolerate difference.....or so loose it allows total disregard for others. It requires respect and it requires really wanting to get along. Not all are ment to be here or can handle what it means.

1. Are you an American? If you discount your own speech, then it's going to be harder to get anyone else to show any serious interest in what you have to say.

2. If something went wrong in the voting, I don't think that means that you shouldn't vote, but make a bigger push to fix the system you vote through. It's those people who feel that they can't make a difference that end up not taking action and thus not making a difference.

3. If you don't want to enlist in the military, you also have that right. Those people serving over in Iraq didn't get the option to make the call on whether they would be occupying Iraq or not. That decision was made much higher up, and while I def don't agree with it, can't really feel like we can fault the soldiers who are stuck following orders too much.

Are those the only rights that you feel that you have? You have a lot more rights than that, so why just bring those up? You are afforded a lot of freedoms that you wouldn't have the priviledge of enjoying in other countries. You shouldn't take for granted all of the freedoms you do have and if you can have it better somewhere else, well, maybe it's worth a move if you can get more freedoms, perhaps a better economy, or other things that might entice you to go.

1. Freedom of speech. Maybe you should care about what you say. Doesn't matter if others care. And like minded individuals can get together and try to voice their opinion and try to change what they don't like. That's freedom of speech.
2. Equal rights. Meaning that you don't get 200 lashes and 6 months in prison for being in the company of a man that is not related. And your 7 rapists do not just get a rap on the knuckles... because after all, you deserved to be gang raped for being a loose woman.
3. Freedom from unreasonable search and seizure. Meaning that just because you post things on this site that people don't agree with, your home won't be torn apart and you won't be arrested.
4. ON and on.... You need an education.

Well, one good thing about being an American, is that you can publicly post opinions like this you have just posted, and no one is going to come for you and your family in the middle of the night, and you will effectively disappear from sight (and probably from life, itself). That's a little thing, I know, compared to people on this website deleting your "points of view". You don't like it here? You are free to leave. You would be amazed to learn there are countries where, even if you don't like it, you are NOT free to leave. When the Berlin Wall was standing, there were guards who would shoot people trying to leave East Berlin. So you can't get George Bush to talk to you? At least, you won't get shot if you go to Washington. So you don't know what the war is about? I suspect many of the military don't know either, but they are there and they are doing their job. If they were not there, then you REALLY might not like the government here. If you have seen the soldiers who come back injured from Iraq or Afghanistan, then you have seen heroes. On of these days, you might gain enough maturity to realize your opinions would matter even less in other countries, and your voicing those opinions could get you killed in some countries. When you get older and self sufficient, and you still feel the same, then please...feel free to leave.

The best thing that I can think is the multicultural background. We have almost the best of the best (not minimizing other cultures) but honestly peopel with great skills in different arenas come to the US to find better ways of life. That is called brain-drain, where countries cannot offer the quality of life that exist in the US and so people (many, many smart ones) come here. And it is very sad that a lot of Americans don't recognize this, we have been very fortunate and other countries simply are so poor or the system is very bad that they can't keep their best brains in.
Racists don't see further than their noses and I'm not talking about illegal immigrants (who also have skills) but about legal immigrants when they ask how to come to the US or just arrive and are treated like s.... because of their skin color.

Too bad that you sound like you've had more than your share of the bad breaks, and you've turned into a classic example of someone who just plain takes every good thing she has for granted. But seriously, try living in a country where:

1) you'll be arrested for no good reason, for writing what you just wrote;

2) you'll have to wear a mask, a veil over your face, never show your face, forever, or else...no if's and but's about it...

3) you can't speak freely, and when you do you never know if anyone within hearing distance will turn you in, even relations and friends might do that or else they, too, will be charged with complicity;

Need I say more?

If you'd rather live there, you are free to go, you know that!

America is great compared to THIRD WORLD countries. Believe me they have no free bees in those countries. Homeless are treated like cats and dogs etc. You've never seen police brutality until you are in one of these countries, sometimes they will say you are guilty and beat you until you can confess just so they can close the case, it can get really bad. As for innocent until proven guilty, doesn't exist. BUT if you live in Canada, Spain, anywhere in Europe, Switzerland, Australia. Those countries are great! They are even better! Plus you can get FREE health care in some. I am planning to eventually move out. It's getting bad with gas prices going up and the housing market. The Middle Class is slowly becoming the lower class! It doesn't look good. I certainly don't want my kids to suffer, so hopefully my hubby can move his IT job overseas! Go out and explore the world! You can learn a lot by traveling! Don't wait until you retire, by then you will be too old and get tired of walking around! I am glad that I am not waiting. I have learned a lot about people through my travels! Good luck!
edit:
By the way, if you do move out make sure to keep your American Citizenship also, it is very hard to get a visa to come to America from other countries!

1. Freedom of speech means the GOVERNMENT can't throw you in prison for speaking against them. It has nothing to do with Yahoo Answers.

2. Yep you do have the power to vote, but yours is not the only vote. Don't whine just because your candidate didn't get the most votes.

3. The "right" to enlist? How about the choice to enlist or not enlist (since you don't believe in what the military is doing). The poeple in the military VOLUNTEERED and are proud of what they are doing.

4. Hey Genius ... every country in the world has taxes. If you don't like the welfare leeches, vote Republican.

5. The US lets in more LEGAL IMMIGRANTS than all other countries combined. We simply cannot take EVERYONE ON THE PLANET. Get off your high horse.

But if you hate this country so much, you are welcome to find another one. Just move there illegally, since you think that's so morally justifiable.

I was in the Army for 4 years during the first Gulf War and I don't know a single vet or military member that disagrees with my opinion. You are so naive.

P.S. I'm sorry that your friends are such cowards.

America could be better or it could be worse. Immigrants are part of what makes this country great. Their contribution to this society has made it a safe place to be whatever religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation etc. one is. There have been and continue to be atrocities committed by some individuals. We as Americans must strive to keep it what the founding fathers intended a democracy with equality and freedom for all.
