Do you believe that we are in the third World War? This fight is obviously global, but has it reached the level to be called WWIII?

News Flash!!
This War on Terror is Global.
Spain / UK / USA / Mexico / Canada / Germany / Japan / Yemen / Africa / The entire Mid-East... and more!
Sounds fairly global to me... is a WW based on the number of deaths? If so, how many need to die?

No this is not WWIII. While the war on terror is global, it is only very few small isolated incedents. Yes, 9-11 was huge by todays standard, but when you compare it the bombing of Dresden in WWII to 9-11 its hardly even a comparison.

Right now no country has declared war on any other country. While troops are currently in these conflicts, the US is not at war with Iraq or Afghanistan's governments.

Just because troops from all over the world are deployed to a regional conflict, does not make it WWIII.

Should this conflict escilate into Iran, North Korea, Venziula, Russia, ect.. With countries declaring war against each other, then yes you could call it WWIII.

Korea was not considered WWIII and that was a NATO led war with troops from several countries in it. China, Russia, North Korea vs South Korea, United States, and the United Kingdom to just name a few. That was just the Korean War, not WWIII.

Newsflash!!! There have been over 40 conflicts going on at any time during the period after WWII to the present. So far they've been relegated to the heap of regional conflicts, proxy wars, brinksmanship and sabre rattling. When the two super powers collide directly into their separate camps, then come back and we'll talk world war.

History is very particular on calling a war...a world war. As you may recall, the Japanese invasion in Manchuria and Indo-china did not cause history to see it as the beginning of the second world war. It wasn't until Germany invaded poland that a critical mass of countries and continents was reached before it was entitled with that distinction.

While you bring up the war on terror, it has not reached a critical mass of two super powers, continents, oceans...and nowadays...outerspace....not that the current conflicts don't have the spark of a new world war.

Interesting question considering I am living in one of the countries "involved" in this global war and there is nothing that reminds me on a daily basis that we are in fact "at war". I recognize the sacrifice of our servicemen and women in Iraq and Afghanistan and perhaps (a tiny perhaps) if it wasn't for their presence in the Middle East we may have experienced another attack on our soil, HOWEVER, I generally would consider a global war to involve global populations as this war is only effecting a small percentage. I really believe alot of the rhetoric has died from this War of Ideas, in recent years from its height in 2002-4. The huge number of deaths will always numb the sharpness of ideas and propaganda. What are we fighting for? Freedom? Revenge? Oil? Globalization? Look around. Whatever it is, no one really cares.

IMHO, the answer is no. As others have noted, it is not on a scale large enough to be considered a "world war." However, depending upon events in Iran and Pakistan, that could change very quickly. If Islamist nutcases have access to nuclear devices, it will become a world conflict very quickly. The ability of just a few nukes to choke off world oil supplies could lead to a conflict of horrific proportions.

We are in the middle stages now-soon, if world peace is not achieved, it will be too late. the next few years leading up to 2011 are critical. Man has free will and can change this, but probably won't.Most people believe WWIII will start in the Middle East(yes, it will be involved), but the real start will be problems with the Catholic Church in the following countries: France, Italy, England, Russia, China, Japan, Israel, Spain, India, Pakistan, Libya, Ethiopia, Iran,Iraq, Germany, and America. According to many psychics, most notably, Saint Malachi, the current Pope is the last Pope before the age of the Antichrist(not necessarily Satan/the Devil/Lucifer, but humankind'sdarker side) .The last but one Pope before the end of the world is named by Malachi as De Gloria Olivae or "From the Glory of the Olives": The Order of Saint Benedict(current Pope's name is Pope "Benedict" XVI and it is often that he has extende "the Olive branch" to Christians and various countries - 400 year old coincedence/fact?) has claimed that this pope will come from their ranks. Saint Benedict reportedly prophesied that before the end of the world his Order, known also as the Olivetans, will triumphantly lead the Catholic Church in its fight against evil. I, admiitedly, am not very religious, but get shivers down my spine when I read "Revelations". Descriptions of the creatures there are symbols of all the countries involved TODAY:the Dragon(China), the bear(Russia), the Eagle(America), the Leopard(India), the Lion(England)-in all fairness, in many cases, more than one country has the same symbol and of course the mark of the Beast is often associated with some sort of Computer System Scanner that will read a coded number before purchases and/or other services can be rendered(may be credit/bank cards or other still being discussed similiar systems).China is the only country in the world that has enough men by itself to raise the army described in the Bible. If any one/thing were to contol the world, it would be through a vast computer system.Computer systems have advanced so rapidly, that by 2020, many feel we will see an andoid like Data, on Star Trek: The Next Generation, that will actually be considered an independent emergent new form of life. Already systemms are self-learning and calculate many times faster than humans. Some work is already in the experimental stages of self repairng machines and also a meld of human and computer parts. By 2020, by even conservative standards, all known reserves of oil will be used up. Who uses the most oil-China?Who has the most oil-the Middle East? What countries want to keep or improve their standard of living-all? The war in Iraqu was not over freedom, but protecting oil access. Only one solution - all working TOGETHER towards the same goal.United we all stand, divided, we fall. Eliminate selfishness, greed, envy, gluttony of all kinds, hatred/predjudice.The planet, to, is feeling its affects- increased disasters and magnitudes of disasters-hurricanes, volcanos, storms, diseases, landslides, fires, famines, snowstorms, pole shifts(going on right now). Anyone that says it isn't so, is looking at the tree, not the whole forrest.Humans will destroy themselves directly(war) and/or indirectly(changing the planet).Bottom line-humans MUST change-question is will we?. WWIII is up to all of us and, right now, it doesn't look too good.Visit naturescorner.com, my website.

Definitely not. The to world wars included a lot more than the war on terror. This was a stupid question.

Are you talking about the war on terror or what's going on in Iraq and Afghanistan?

Either way I'd say no, because most of the world appears to be sitting this one out.

It could definitely be the beginning of it. If and when it happens, we'll be the first to know. We won't be spared in that one. Prepare for our large cities and factories to be bombed. Military bases as well. Refineries and oil wells will also be targets. Ports and large airports. Lets hope it doesn't come to that.

Of course not!
WW1 and WW2 were caused by one huge power that had jumped up and felt that it could invade other countries for the good of mankind. It was becoming the one big super-power and made all the other countries nervous until they decided to band together and put a stop to it.

Oh wait. Hmmmmm. Maybe you are right.
