But i do crop/edit/enhance/and everything eles. What should i charge the people i'm taking the pics of?? Anyone do this for a living know?? This is like a part time job for me, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

There are so many things to consider:

People are always looking for a cheap way out...so be prepared your potential customers are looking for the "deal" and have no desire to pay the going price of truly "professional" work. You will always be faced with someone who will do it for less, and even those who will do it for nothing just to call themselves professionals. Your challenge is to become a business person and have people respect your talent and products.

Think of the following when setting prices...and don't waver just because you don't get the assignment because of price.

What does the competition charge?
What type of event?
What are your costs to get the assignment?

Photography is often treated as a hobby with people liking to call themselves "professionals" and charging just enough to allow them the luxury of owning some cool, sophisticated equipment.

With digital and scanning it is no longer realistic to charge a low sitting fee and depend on reprints for profits. I charge from $200 - $500 for the initial sitting (depending on the time invested) and give them 4 x 6 proofs of all pictures.I charge a low mark up on reprints.

Edited to add, that was for just portrait sessions, I start at $850 for events.

It depends on how good you are (quality 0f your photos) and what the market will handle for your area. I sugggest calling other photogs in the area as a customer to get proces, Then you can know where to fit in.

I'm in the L.A., CA area. I am very good and very expensive. I charge $2000 for a wedding. That's just for me showingup to shoot. The photos are separate.
For modeling shoots I charge $750, and they get the photos on a CD.

I am not a portrait shooter but friends of mine charge a starting sitting fee of $250. When I do shoot people I use www.printroom.com, they allow you to set prices for print. This might be a good route for you to take. It depends on your client tell.

What type of event? A party, a wedding? or just one-to-one session (for headshot). Your question was a bit vague. How many hours do you spend?
