I am looking for a digital camera that is compact but takes fast pictures. None of the ones that I have seen so far even have specificaitons for how fast they take pictures.

The dreaded "shutter lag" is endemic to the digicam genre'.

It can be overcome somewhat by using Sports mode (it might be called Action on some cameras) and by depressing the shutter release half-way to allow the camera to pre-focus and (if needed) recharge the flash just before the peak of the action you want to capture.

I think dpreviews.com lists shutter lag or you might find it listed in the reviews at shutterbug.com.

Buying Check List
Your new digital camera should have these key features:
• At least a 6MP imaging device for a D-SLR
• At least a 7MP imager for a point-and-shoot
• Optical zoom of 3x, some have 6x...not just a digital zoom
• The highest quality optics
• A large LCD screen; the more pixels doesnt mean the better the quality.6-8 are great unless you want to print garage size images.
• The widest range for aperture (f/stops), shutter speed and ISO
• An AF Illuminator or AF Assist mode for best flash shots in dim light
• A variety of "scene" modes for more convenient shooting in a variety of situations
• Make sure you do your own ergonomic hands-on test
and image stabilizer if possible.

canon has the a-series..like a710, a720, a520..all a good camera and a good price right now.
