Our school currently has a very strict uniform which in California is very uncomfortable. For the spring/fall uniform my proposal is solid color polo shirts and khaki pants. For the winter November-March I am proposing Navy blue, black, or gray blazer, solid color oxford shirt, tie, khaki pants, and dress shoes. is that a good idea should it be stricter or looser.

For the dress uniform it would be navy blue or black blazer white oxford shirt tie gray dress pants black socks and shoes for girls navy blue or black blazer white oxford shirt gray skirt or pants

It is a coed private school so for girls it would be the same except they would have to wear white oxford shirts without the tie and they could wear skirts

V-neck sweater may be allowed once a week such as Wednesday instead of the blazer

I'm assuming your current uniform is more formal than what you're proposing. If that is the case, I think you have a good proposal there. You might even consider a v-neck pullover sweater over a shirt and tie as an alternative to the blazer for winter. similar to the boy in the link below.

Now, if you really want to make this happen, you're going to have to write up a proposal that is convincing... telling them that the current uniform is uncomfortable isn't likely to matter to them - they probably think the less comfortable you are the less fun you'll have, which they think is good.

You could figure out pricing - if this version is less expensive, that will help your arguement. Also keeping clothes clean is part of their cost, if the old stuff had to be dry cleaned, then washable sweaters will be cheaper to clean, PLUS better for the environment.

Also perhaps this would give the school a newer "look" - that is, more modern... In promotional literature, you don't want people looking at uniforms that look like they were selected in the 50s.

think about this sort of stuff and develop a good arguement. You might also put together a petition - have your peers read the proposal and sign the petition... it'd be even better if you could even get some teachers to sign too... maybe parents? make sure you give them a place to sign their name, write their name, and write, teacher, student (and grade), or parent or whatever.

Good luck!

Wow, its sounds pretty strict. It depends on what ages the school covers. I remember I went to a private catholic school and our uniforms were relatively simple (in Ca. too). We wore the usual plaid skirts with a while blouse. The boys wore khaki or dark blue pants with a white polo shirt... no tie. That school went up to 8th grade. Keep in mind, how practical is it to wear a blazer and tie? Isnt the idea to be comfortable in school? No one wants to wear a uniform that will restrict movements and be awkward to wear.

the only thing I would vote against is the blazers for boys. They can get uncomfortable and it might be an added expense for the parents.Maybe a sweater in the appropriate colors would be more reasonable. Otherwise I think it sounds pretty good.

Great idea. I wish all schools would have a uniform code. I believe it puts all students on a the same level. The social economical status is taking away. Students are more open to each other and to learning. Not spending time judging and picking apart each other because of clothes.

I thoroughly agree with uniforms. It's easier to concentrate on studying without the distraction of costuming. Your proposal sounds very good, but I also would throw in a v-neck sweater option.

I think uniforms are wrong all together, it's communist. Dressing appropriately is good.
