No it can't get rid of fleas. All it can do is wash off the fleas currently on the dog. It will not wash off eggs and pupae, and it is not a preventative. I say don't bother with any washes, even with flea shampoo, because it just doesn't tackle the problem in the right way. Washing is not the way to tackle fleas.

At 4 months of age, your puppy is more than old enough for a veterinary spot-on like Frontline or Revolution. I suggest you get hold of a veterinary treatment because they're the only ones that work - pet store ones don't.

People will say Dawn poisons fleas, frightens them off, encases them in viscous fluid, suffocates them - all sorts of mad stories!! It does none of these things.

dawn dish soap is the best and it won't dr out their skin as much as some of the others. Leave it on at least 5 minutes to suffocate the fleas and use a flea comb afterwards to get all the eggs repeat weekly until the fleas are totally gone don;t forget to treat the house as well you can use 20 mules powder cleaner for carpets sprinkle on work into carpet with a broom let it set for at least an hour but 24 hours is best vaccum thouroughly for the yard you can use sevin dust then get on a good monthly treatment

Dishwashing liquid is good for killing fleas because it permeates the oily outer layer that fleas have. However, depending on the age of your puppy, bathing him in it would be unadvisable. If you have the time, shampoo him using regular, mild shampoo or a flea shampoo then groom him. As you pick the fleas off of him put them in a small glass of water that has the dish soap in it. That method works really well.

Do not use dishsoap. It is not formulated for dogs and can do damage to their hair. You need to use a formula designed specifically to kill fleas AND their eggs and is suitable for your dog.

Also use Frontline or K9 Advantix. However; I have also learned growing up in the sticks a trick, chop up a clove of garlic and put it in your dogs food, for some reason it makes the dog undesirable for fleas, ticks and mosquitos

Dish soap can be fine or it can be harmful to the dog's skin.

Blue Dawn dish soap is entirely safe-its what they use to clean up the animals after oil spills and such. It will kill fleas by trapping them under the water, but will not harm your pup in any way.

All other dish washing soaps need to be avoided. They will dry out the skin and can cause problems.

No, it doesn't. Don't use anything other than puppy shampoo on a puppy without talking to your vet.

Call your vet and ask if you can pick up some Frontline Plus or some Advantage for your puppy.

At the risk of attack, I use to use Joy (lemon only) on my extreme cases. However try regular puppy shampoo first. Be sure to de-flea everything that the puppy comes in contact with to prevent re-infestation or you are wasting your time!
