why did christians still believe slavery was ok until only about 100 years ago? why did they believe murdering the non-believers, i.e. native americans, was ok a few hundred years ago? why in some states was interracial marriage banned until less than ten years ago? christianity had over 1500 years to spread from the time of jesus till the oldest events i mentioned. and these weren't unpopular practices among christians either. they were very common. shouldn't the new covenant have allowed for blacks to remain free? shouldn't the new covenant have allowed for the native americans to practice their own religions? shouldn't the new covenant have allowed for interracial marriages?

i'm not saying anyone here is responsible for it. what i'm suggesting is that our morality has evolved, even past the time of jesus. things that were once deemed ok by the masses are now considered wrong. unless we realize what is killing us, we are doomed.

If all of what you say is true, its true. I, for one, am not responsible for it. So lets learn from the past, move on, and not make those mistakes again.

Christians did not believe slavery was okay, let's dismiss that from the beginning. In researching my family tree, I find that every single one of my relatives worked to free slaves.
You are asking why Jesus didn't include political, racial and other stuff into the new covenant ... the covenant we have with Jesus has nothing to do with that, it's about Love.

We need to remember that slavery has never been OK by God. We all fall short from the glory of God.
Jesus was calling us for a change, and it is hard to change very fast. That is why it is so wonderful to know that Jesus has paid the price for our sins, so what ever we have been supporting and done wrong, we get pardon because when we accept Him as our Lord and Savior, we get saved.

The only thing that you have proved with your questions is that man is hopelessly depraved and in need of a savior. This is why we can't trust in works for salvation.
Mankind must transfer their trust to Christ and Christ alone for salvation.
Remember the bumper sticker that says, "Christians aren't perfect, their just forgiven." There is a lot of truth in that statement.
Never judge a religion by the abusers of that religion. Always look at your best example. Christ is your best example.

Just because there was/is a new covenant, it doesn't mean everyone goes by it. Just like state and government laws, everyone doesn't abide by those either. People didn't want to accept certain things because it wasn't beneficial to them..the almight dollar was into play. Just like today.
