To aline you bite. This is when your teeth are together. If you don't wear it, don't think that you'll just be in braces longer...like other people say you will. Your actual TMJ temporal mandibular joint is totally thrown off when you bite down. Wear your HG (head gear) as much as possible when at home even sleep in it. Listen to your orthodontist!

it's the thing that actually moves your teeth.
so if you wear it your teeth will move, and if you don't they may move some, but not as much. If it were me, I'd wear it as much as I could and then be done with your braces and get them off faster. That's what I'd do. If you wear it more, you'll get your braces off faster, because that's the rubber bands, wires, and headgear are what move your teeth. If you don't wear these things then you'll wear braces longer.

Aligning your jaw so your teeth fit together properly when you bite. I have 2 older sisters that never wore theirs and had braces for 4-5 years each. I wore mine exactly like I was supposed to and was out of braces in a year.
