"I'm sorry now isn't the best time for me but if you can give me your home phone number I'll give you a call back during your dinner time"

Not sure if this is an international thing, but when we get a telemarketing calls there's a dead line very briefly while they wait (on mute) to see if anyone answers. We hang up when we hear the 'deadness' of the line, even before they open the line and start their spiel.

I love the idea of the young child talking, though. I have a 3 year old and a baby, so I'm good for a few years of inconsequential chatter...

Good afternoon from a local telemarketer - whats wrong with us we do a job the same as anyone else and if you are rude to us we will keep calling you back, so its nice to be nice, if its for double glazing etc tell them its only 1 year old and you wont be bothered for a while.

I try to play along by giving them really strange answers, or always asking them questions. But not just normal questions, make them a bit silly. Just not too silly.

Or you could always just try to sell something to the telemarketers.

The best way to get rid of them is to get put on the do not call list. The website is https://www.donotcall.gov/ You wouldn't believe how much better life is after you're weeded out of all those call lists.

I would ask them to hold on & not come back. They'll hang up sooner or later!

Saying to them three times "I do not need your service or item, please take me off your calling list".

They are required to accept the rebuttals and let you go, as they are required by job rule to probe 3 times to try and get you to buy.

Honestly though guys, being rude and yelling things at the people who are calling you is harsh. Personally the idea of saying "Domino's Pizza" or some other business works VERY well, as they are required to mark it down as a business, and as a result never call that number again.

This is from an episode of Seinfeld, but I thought it was great!

A telemarketer calls

Jerry says something like "Oh I don't have time to talk right now, but if you wouldn't mind leaving me your home phone number I can call you later tonight (cuts himself off) oh you probably don't want people calling you at home..."

Telemarketer says something like "yeah"

Jerry " well now you know how I feel" Click

you can either as your telephone company to add the telemarkerters block plan to your package, if they have it, some carry it, others don't. or you can go to radio shack or walmart and buy the telemarketer table top machine. works in a matter of minutes of it's set up.
