Any person who is or claim to be a true Muslim. Will NOT question it if it came with it is 'the Sharia', for they Will be accused to be against Islam and the prophet. Believe me it is the truth, and I have heard it many times. They are bounded by their own religion not to question it, even when they don't agree with it, and those who do, are branded as heretic.
Notice from the answers you receive. They either will divert from answering you by claiming it is not true, or it is blamed on those who are not true Muslims, and the best of them all, drag another religion to divert the attention from your question to someone else.
The reason why the rape victim get punished is because the victim must prove it was a rape not adultery, and that is not an easy task for she needs four eye witnesses to her being violated, if she can't get them, she is out of luck and would be considered an adulterer not a victim or rape. The burden of proof is on the woman, and she needs to bring forth four witness, that is four men, or eight women witnesses to her being raped/ violated.
I am not agreeing nor disagreeing with those laws. I am only observing the reaction of people, and how they would react when it comes to religion.
To answer your questions one by one, here we go:
Muslims can't question the Sharia, if they do they will be accused of insutling the religion. In their eyes, it is perfect, it is a way of life, and there is nothing wrong with it since it came from Allah.
Muslims live by the laws of the 7th century, and will do so ever more. Those people who ask how can you live by the laws of the past! they will not and can't change the sharia laws, because they don't want to be accused of corrupting the Quran.
They think that just by mere looking at a woman. The man will lust over her and want to be with her. The best solution for them, not to see the woman. or keep her at home.

Thank goodness I have not have been given any faith incredibly Muslim. What the heck is faulty with those human beings. Terrorism, punishing rape victims, etc. If for basically one week, i think of all faith might desire to bypass on a sabatical. No church, no synagogues, etc. basically calm down on the porch or park bench, choose for a great walk, and basically be one with the universe ... as their very own guy or woman. no want for yet another to tell them the thank you to stay. the international might ultimately be at peace.

Punishing a victim of any crime is unjust. Scourging a rape victim is viciously unjust. And Saudi Arabia is defending the sentence.

If you map the free nations of the world with the nations where most people are Christians or which have been strongly influenced by the nations where most people are Christians, the overlap is remarkable.
Among the nations rated as "not free" by the international democracy watchdog organization Freedom House are Algeria, Azerbaijan, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, LIbya, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and United Arab Emirates.
The freest countries include Austria, the US, Canada, Costa Rica, Belgium, Chile, Denmark, France, Finland, Germany, Great Briain, Ireland, Iceland, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Italy, and New Zealand.
Cheers,

In response to Fatima:
As a Muslima, I've asked SAUDI men what they think about the abuse of women in their country. They have always refused dialouge. I'd have to be a damned fool to live there!
There's no where in the Qur'an or hadith/sunnah that says victims of rape are to be punished. In fact, I remember reading that. Someone else mentioned that rapists are sentenced to death (something the US needs to adopt what with all the child rapists...), I'll have to double check. But rapists are NOT allowed to go unpunished.
As for meeting with someone of the opposite sex that isn't related to you, I don't think there's any "punishment" for that. It's mostly a precautionary thing.
Now Question Asker, alot of folks gave you some good answers. You really don't have to take our word for it, but learn/read about Islam, and disregard the shallow mental abilities of Saudi Arabian men.

To that person with the unreadable name who says that it doesn't happen, put down your koran and read a damn newspaper. It's happening in Saudi Arabia this week. Actually, she was gangraped and in addition, is receiving 6 months in jail! - http://edition.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/meast/11/21/saudi.rape.victim/ http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2007/11/20/africa/ME-GEN-Saudi-Rape.php

All religions get corrupted from the wisdom they first were. I am no scholar of the Koran, but as far as I can see passages that say stuff like "Look after all women, not only your wives and sisters" has become corrupted to mean. "Stone any woman who shows her elbow." I guess Monty Python said it all, when Brian lost his shoe and they fractioned off.
