If you're walking down the street and see somebody lying there injured, you stop to see if there's anything you can do to help... right?
If you're walking down the street and you some kid being picked on by a couple of bullies, you intervene... right?
If you're walking down the street and you hear a scream from an alley, and, upon investigating, see a couple of guys raping a woman... you try to stop them, right?
Back when this country was mostly wilderness and population was just a few cities along the East Coast, people helped each other. it's the only way we could survive. When somebody needed help and wasn't breaking the law, you gave it. If you're a Christian, it's your duty to do so.
It's kind of ingrained into us almost from birth.
I don't think anybody in America is particularly "into" war. In fact -- at least I hope it's fact -- almost all Americans hate war. At least that's true among our military.
But somehow we've kind of become the "police officers" of the world. Whenever there's an emergency, we're expected to help. Whenever somebody's oppressed, we're expected to do something about ti. Whenever there's something wrong, we're expected to right it.
And, just like the city and county police forces, we're always doing it wrong in the eyes of those we serve. It's always too much too soon or too little to late.
Take the tidal wave that hit India some time ago. The UN acted as if we caused it. We told the Indian government that the thing looked likely. They just didn't have the ability to warn their people. We sent a hospital ship, we sent supplies, we sent construction materials, we sent money. The UN said we should send more. Why? We're the only reason the UN exists. We subsidize that organization too. But, when we wanted their support in Iraq, they wasted 12 years trying diplomacy and sanctions.... which sanctions UN members circumvented and made tons of money doing so.
An apparent flaw in the character of many seems to be that they have almost zero foresight and 20/20 hindsight. They have no clue as to what's going on until after it happens, and then they're suddenly experts on how whatever it was should have happened.
Yeah, we fight wars. We fight them when there's nobody else willing to help the kid being bullied, or he woman being raped, and when the bullies or rapists want to fight. Other nations stand by and watch. If we don't do something they point their fingers at us. If we do something it's wrong. If they knew the right way, then why didn't THEY do something?
I wish there were a way that we could get out of this job. But we're the "good guys." We're reliable. We're the only nation in the world others trust. And although in most cases we could easily do so, we don't kick the stuff out of them when they call us names. Just like the police.

This is the price a rich and prosperous nation pays. U have to keep free riders and nibblers at bay. Rich nations have to depend upon the cooperation of others , fo life style and become paranoid if they sense some thing could disturb their life styles.
Poor nations would would not be bothered whether iraq or iran have nuclear warheads, price of oil fixed by OPEC, manufacturing base being shifted to India etc.
America has no choice if it wants to hold on to its present position
Draw a parallel from UK, it was global colonising power in 1500/1600 for the same reasons

evaluate this. maximum human beings think of Iraq, Vietnam, and Korea have been the only wars on account that WW2. in specific circumstances no longer retaining war retains it out of the mainstream. somewhat some human beings additionally think of US and the united kingdom are the only western powers with a armed forces presence in yet another usa. If it does not make the frontpage, its no longer a war.

We are not war faring, we just want to wake up in the morning knowing we have the right to have our own religion, freedom of speech, and not worry about suicide bombers driving into our schools.

no we are not. i laugh at those of you who use the very short list of wars we have been involved in as a example. England,France Prussia, etc. use to fight wars with someone almost every year since their inception, that is war faring if anything not what we do in the USA.

Of course we are. Most advanced countries are. You have to be able to defend yourself. Sometimes defending yourself means taking an offensive stance. And remember, it's always better to fight on someone else's soil.
