good answers guys! I get very concerned by how many cafe staff etc, don't wash their hands after touching bacon or whatever. I just wondered what everyone else thought.

Hi I do and I all the time, and I try my best not to touch the plate its been on and wash the plate staight aways so it cannot get on anything else. I am really parranoid about it,

I know your suppose to but its quite shocking how many people dont and then continue to touch other things after they have touched raw meat. Even if I know every where is clean and no meat has touched the side etc I will still go over it with the anti bacterial for extra measures lol

Yes, definitely. I was raised by a very hygienic mother, and even though I'm not nearly as clean-obsessed as she is, there is no way I can NOT wash my hands after handling raw meat. Not only am I aware of all the germs I can receive from touching it, I just can't stand the smell and feel of raw meat on my hands. Ewww, gross! I immediately wash my hands after-wards.

Yes - absolutely!

I wash my hands after handling any kind of food and before touching another sort - just in case I am not going to use all of the next lot that way I won't be leaving bits of blood from meat on the potatoes going back into the potato hopper!

At home always and with soap and I always wash the tap handles too if I touch them after handling raw meat (with soap also). Now I help out at a family members butcher shop and there I don't as I will just be touching meat again - also the butchers don't either unless they are going to lunch!

OMG--that's just gross if you don't! Who would want to have raw meat juice/blood on their hands, then go around touching stuff? Yuck, lol. I always SCRUB my hands (including under my nails) when I've handled raw meat.

What really bugs me is on Food TV, all the chefs make a point to wash their hands while they're cooking, which is good, because it's teaching people they need to, yet if you watch HOW they wash their hands, they almost never use soap--they just run their hands under water and barely get all the dirt/germs/biscuit dough/whatever is on their hands, off.

Yes all the time. When I'm cookling with raw meat i'm constantly washing my hands. Open the meat, wash the hands, mix the meat, wash hands, move the meat, wash hands, put meat in pan, wash hands again.

Always doing multiple things in the kitchen so I constantly wash my hands.

I'm a nut about washing my hands after handling raw meat. My food safety classes put the fear of God into me after learning all the food borne illnesses and cross contamination.
