Asphalt contains petroleum products. Asphalt contains petroleum products. The price of crude goes up ===> the price of asphalt goes up.

With nearly all refineries installing a "delayed coker unit" the production of asphalt is not done nearly as much. The asphalt has a lot more value now then before because you run it thru the coker and produce more gasolines and other valuable products. The coker reduces the asphalt down to plain carbon (coke).

So the price of asphalt has risen more then the price of crude.
