I recently bought two very large posters from the movie "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" and would love to hang them up. I am concerned about tape ruining the back and do not want to use thumbtacks because I don't want the posters to have holes in them. I bought some Command poster strips, which are supposed to be removable from both the wall and poster without any residue. Does anyone know if these actually work when it comes to removing them from the poster? I do not want to use these to hang them only to damage them when I need to take them down.

That goop you can buy works at times but sometimes its oils can penetrate the paper over time.Framing's nice but can be expensive. Cheaper solutions are poster hangers (which are essentially oversize slide-grip report bingings placed on the top and bottom of the poster with string looped through the top binding for hanging) and there's always plaquing which is also cheap and will help protect it in the long-term.

The best thing to use in your situation is Fun Tag. It's a bit like play dough, but sticky. It's strong enough to hold the poster, but it rubs right off the wall without damaging the paint or the poster.

I can't remember the name of this stuff, but it's kind'a like a silly puddy kind of texture. You take a piece off and stick it to the wall on four corners, then press the poster in place. When its time to take them down, you just pull the pieces off. Some people use this stuff behind picture frames to keep them from shifting. It won't mark the wall or ruin the poster. Sorry I don't know the name of this stuff but I'm sure if you went to a hardware store and explained it to them, they would know what it's called.

You are better off framing the poster, then hanging. If you just hang it up on the wall, it will eventually start to warp due to moisture in air.
Good Luck and Happy Thanksgiving!!!

I agree with Matt, frame the poster and then hang it on the wall. It will look a lot nicer and hold up better. A cheap black frame would set it off and draw the eye to it.
