I use Picture-Shark. It's free and does an excellent job and has a nice batch feature for multiple files.
The company's website won't win any awards, but if you follow the tutorial pages, you'll get the hang of the program very quickly.

You can do it in Photoshop with the text tool. I use a color within the image and then ad the copyright notice. I change the opacity of the text to get that watermark look. You can create an action in photoshop to speed it up and do batches.

just don't put the watermark in a place where someone can just crop it off, though
