I have to rip out wood paneling in my basement and insall drywall. I aslo need to change the carpet. Will it be a problem that install my drywall with new carpet in place? Will it be that messy of a job, or just something a vaccum can clean?

Definitely add the carpet after the drywall is complete. It would be way too messy to clean up.
Also, if you put in the carpet 1st, the drywall won't come all the way down to the floor. So the next time you replace the carpet, you'll have to cut out the carpet and have a small gap under the drywall.

Keep your new carpet A+ like!
you can take your carpet that you have in there now, out..then do the drywall, then clean up, then put the new carpet in.

Install the drywall first. Finish it and then you can do the carpet. You won't have the problem of damaging the carpet and getting a lot of sanding dust in the pile.

After you hang the dry wall. If you're sanding, priming and painting the drywall, then you definitely want to install the carpet last.

You need to get the walls done first! Carpet is the last thing to install!

Baseboard goes in after drywall, so the drywall, then the baseboard and the carpet last. ...Good luck...
