I’m 5’5 133 lbs with a large frame and 22% body fat, not fat by any standard. It seems most women who have large frames are overweight and overfat. Most slim Hollywood celebs have small frames and the ones who have large frames tend to be enormous like Rosie O’Donnell. Is it just my imagination

How much body fat you have does not depend on your frame size. Yes, our bones are bigger, but that does not make us fatter. I have a large frame, am 5'9", and weigh between 150-160. I am not overweight, although I am close by medical standards, but I am not "enormous" as you put it.

We all have to take care of our bodies, but it is more your metabolism that effects how much weight you gain and not your frame size.

Your frame size, no matter how big can NOT make you fat. Fatness has absolutely nothing to do with frame size.

However, I get what you are saying. It seems a lot of the women in Hollwyood with larger frames like Rosie O'Donnnell tend to also be fat as well. It might be due to the endermorph body type, high lean mass AND high body fat.

But I would say Serena and Venus Williams are good examples of having a large frame and not being fat. They are obviously very muscular as well as large framed. Also Beyonce who is very lean but not small, Kelly Osbourne who has slimmed down recently and Oprah Winfrey, but she is always up and down with her weight, so I'm not sure if she counts.

Erin C, well said.

To the person below me, thanks for the more tangible examples. I tapped the following earlier when I was killing time before leaving, and I was in a bit of a hurry.

Define "large frame". At six feet, my frame is definitely larger than that of my mother, who is 5'8", or my sister and husband's sister who are both about 5'6", or even my MIL who is just over five feet. In terms of width, my MIL is much bigger than me. I used to eat very well and exercise. Now I just eat very well. My MIL does neither (and also wonders why she has health problems). My mother eats decently. (I'm not overly concerned about bringing food with me when I visit my parents, like I am with my in-laws. However, my parents have stuff in their fridge that I wouldn't even buy. They gave me a good foundation and I built on it.) My mother's clothing size is still a bit bigger than me, even though I'm somewhere between a 14 and a 16. (I still have about six pounds of baby weight. I'm going to phone my mother to see if she has any old 14s and 16s that she could loan me, or give to me while I'm still in transition. I have some 14s from my bigger days, but I don't want to buy anything new, even from Goodwill if I don't have to.) With the way my SIL eats, I wouldn't be surprised if she weighs just less than me. (There have been times when she weighed more than me by as much as ten pounds.) My sister, weighs much less and is very fit and toned. She also trains for, and runs marathons. She eats some stuff that I wouldn't touch, but at the same time, eats very well, too.

When I was younger and fat (over 200 pounds) I called myself "big boned" to excuse it. Now, maybe I am "big boned" but just control my weight better, or my metabolism has changed as I have gotten older. Who knows.

However, I do see what you are saying in the general sense.

No, I have noticed this as well - I don't know why we're built that way. I have a larger frame as well (I'm 150lbs though...!) and have noticed that people with smaller frames are usually skinnier/lighter. I do wonder what the correlation is between frame and obesity...interesting question! Thanks!
