If there were only one book to read I would choose the Bible for both my children and for me. It has stories, life lessons, words to ponder, ideas to wrestle with, and there are several love stories in it, too. As the mother of 4 beautiful babies, who are now 28, 26, 23, and 10, and a grandma to a 7 month old grandson, I can say that the desire to have what is best for your children and to always protect them never goes away. The Bible is a book suitable for all ages and has an amazing feature in that as we grow, the words in it take on a unique relevance to our lives. Often times words that I've read many times over suddenly spark a new understanding in my head and my heart. Not because the words have changed but because I've changed or my sitution has changed.

Wow, a very good but very difficult question. I would either pick the Bible, or the very first present I bought for my son when my husband and I found out we were expecting - a book about baby animals telling why they love their daddy so much. I bought it not only because I knew my husband would be a great dad, but because we have tried to instill in our son since he was little the importance of growing up to being a good man and a model father to his children. The third choice is "Love You Forever," the story about a mother rocking her son and singing to him that she'll love him forever ("I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, as long as I'm living, my baby you'll be") at different stages in his life, from newborn to grown man. At the end, when the mother is sick and dying, the son rocks her and sings to her. He then starts the same tradition by rocking and singing to his newborn daughter. It's a beautiful story, and I would consider it because I want my son to grow up knowing that I will love him unconditionally.
I'm glad we don't really have to choose - we're a family of bibliophiles!

how did i guess everyone would choose the bible. oh well to each there own.
i wouldnt choose the bible personally.
I would choose a book that will keep the child interested, something that will in the end give them something to learn from, something that they will enjoy for years to come, and im not sure the bible will do that, maybe for some, but not me. charlettes web. i liked the story as a child, i like it now as an adult, there is alot of emotion to it, life lessons, and good morals.

I'd have to go with everyone else and say the Bible. It has everything in it that you really need even if you choose not to believe. It teaches morals, it has adventurous stories, it had heart warming stories, and it just brings you closer to God.
