In my communications class, we studied the effects of too much TV vs. too little TV. In this day in age it's better to have some TV, but it shouldn't consume your everyday life. Like some people schedule their whole life around particular TV shows. Some studies show that too much TV can make you very isolated, lazy, obese, and ignorant. However, TV can also help you create bonds with others (fans of a TV shows), spark conversations, and help you out socially. When dealing with education, some kids learn a lot from educational programming on TV, especally ones from poor economic backgrounds (look at studies they did with kids watching Seseme Street). So in my opinion, it's ok to watch television, just don't have your life revolve around it. Unplug sometimes and join social groups, read a book or hang with friends and/or family. Those give you more fullfilling relationships then TV ever could......

That's purely subjective. It depends entirely on two factors. Firstly, your mentality to begin with, your intelligence, neuroticism, morales, opinions, religious views, prejudices etc. your mental make up will determine what you find attractive to watch and what is offensive, humourous and what is "damaging" for your character. What you watch there after is the second factor; soaps and news in general are conducive to conditioning the mind - whether this is damaging or not is a different matter. My opinion is that some films are educational but some (not all) programmes, soaps and news programs are bad for you. It will differ from individual to individual depending on your psychological balance, understanding, experience and upbringing.

Depends how much and what you watch. I would think for most children these days it does more harm than good, mostly because too much time is spent in front of the tv.
