From past experience - if you are remodeling your bathroom, spend the time and money to replace your old tub with a new one of the color you desire.
While re-glazing is easier than replacing an old tub that is losing it's coating and getting rusty around the drain, it does not last as long as a new tub would.
I have had my existing tub re-glazed twice, because I do not want to go through the trouble and cost of having to replace the tile work necessary to change out tubs, and it has worked well enough for me. You cannot use tub mats that have suction cups, as this can cause the new finish to bubble, since it cannot be baked on like a new tub. But if I were remodeling, the old tub would be outta there.

Go new. While resurfacing is "good enough" for some, it cannot take any abuse. The finish is not baked on so you need to be very careful when using and cleaning. I agree with thinking over the color of the tub. Moods and styles change over time and changing out a tub is not the easiest or cheapest thing to do.

replace. a very good glaze job will last 12 years max, until it absolutely has to be redone. also, whatever you do to the tub, make sure it stays a versatile color, or else you'll be painting it every time you get bored of your walls. but most of all, a re glazed tub is a pain in the butt to clean. you can't use harsh chemicals, so getting stains out is tough, sometimes impossible without damaging the finish.

I agree with Jon, if you are replacing the wall finish around the shower, get a new tub. I had a rental in which the tub had been resurfaced and it came off.

If the old one is in good shape, all the structure around it is sound (no mold or rot), and you're satisfied with the tub itself, I'd probably just refinish it. Taking a tub out and putting a new one in is a true pain in the ***.
