sometimes a girl's face is considered cute, rather than pretty, and vice versa. so which one do you prefer?

Actually, I prefer a healthy face that shows signs of intelligence, emotion and sincerity.
I despise girls that have to be made-up, dressed up and always looking their absolute best (too high maintenance).
If a girl looks at me, smiles, keeps her face clean and looks interested in things around her I find that lots more attractive than a Paris Hilton, or even an America Ferrerra.
But hey, that's just my opinion.

uhhhh, both? :p no really, sometimes a face is too cute, that the girl looks like an immature toddler, sometimes she's too pretty that it goes off your standards (yes, there is such a thing as "overpretty"), so it depends..

I love cute, as long as they are over 18. Cute women are typically perkier, friendlier, and nicer, whereas pretty women usually are jaded and boring.
