The computers at the Rental Car Company can tell by the card number whether or not it's a debit or credit card, and will charge you a deposit according to their policies.

Trisy me..the Car Rental place will KNOW if it is a bonafide Credit Card or ATM card.Credit cards have a much higher available rate than ATM cards..which limit the amount spend to whatever is on deposit in your savings/checking accounts.
