Ive had my braces on almost three years now, and had jaw surgery 6 months ago to fix my overbite, im just feeling so depressed now, im 18 and no1 else my age has them. Everytime i go back to my authodontist they get my hopes up and say next time theyl book me a debracing date, but when i go back theres always another problem and i get really upset. I went back their 2day and asked if they could come off before christmas and she said no, i have to wait for another 6 weeks, then she will see if there ok for the braces to come off, but i msure theyl be something eskle wrong. And also even if we do book a debracing day the waiting list is 6 weeks. Im jsut so fed up, my teeth are so yellow now i feel really ugly :( Any1 else in this situation?

Hey.
I'm 18, a girl and still have my braces on from last year.
Obviously, they haven't been on as long as yours and will be off by January/February.
However, you have to remember that some teeth do take longer to straighten
My sister is 15 and still has her's since 3 years back.
She hasn't been putting in her elastics or anything so she isn't helping herself.
When I first got my braces, I loved them.
It was something new and I know that the end result will look great.
How bad were your teeth before?
Just imagine the look when you get your braces off!
How straight your teeth will be.
Brush your teeth twice a day with whitening and that will deal with the yellowness over a course of time.
Be happy because, although none of my 18 year old friends have braces either, I like being unique.
You should learn to love who you are.
The braces won't be a part of you for long.
Good luck xxx

I've had braces and I actually liked them, your going to be so much happier with straight teeth. When I got mine off my teeth were really yellow too. I just got over it and brushed my teeth. The yellowness went away after a while. It's no big deal. Your parents have spent thousands on them so act satisfied and happy. You can wait six weeks thats a month and a half. 42 days. Its not that long. You can stand 42 days it's not like it's going to be 3 more years down the road that your going to get them off. Your situation sounds pretty serious (you had to get jaw surgery) so you shouldn't care. I hope this helps.

Would you rather be 18 with braces or 40 with donkey teeth...
It's not big deal, I had them too (for 4 years) and I'm 18. I think I'm lucky to have the chance to have my teeth corrected and straight. Some people are stuck with bad teeth for life because they can't be bothered.
As for the yellow, that is not caused by your braces. Brush twice a day and floss everyday, you can floss with braces, I did it everyday for 4 years. And use a good mouthwash.

Nell, there are two women with whom I worked for years who had braces while they were in their thirties. Each had them for more than two years. There is no way you are more disgusted with yours than they were - but they toughed it out and once the blasted things FINALLY came off - both of them not only looked better, they no longer suffered from TMJ disease -which was very painful before they got their braces. The improvement in their health and their self-image was remarkable. And each, who had been single until then, has subsequently found love. I suggest you do as they did and tough it out. Braces ain't permanent...

Are you wearing rubber bands...if so wear them idealy for 22 hours a day, just take them out to eat and brush, then put them back in. Do you wear head gear....if so wear it as much as possible while at home. Other than that it sounds like your orthodontist is tring to fix you bite, listen to what he/she says...any questions as them or me, I'm an orthodontis thats in school.

Don't worry. They will be off soon. :)
Just ask your orthodontist why you can't have your braces off yet. There are people in their 40s and 50s getting braces too.

Awww sweetie,
Just think of how beautiful they will look when they finally come off.
Be patient.
I will all be worth it in the end.
It takes time, I know, but you'll be happy that you did it.
