I have to admit... this guy's question does have merit.
I HATED wearing my Charles Manson designer wear when I was on a ship... so unless you've ever worn the attire folks... shut your pie hole.
I would MUCH rather wear the new blue cammo than the bell-bottom jeans... and the enlisted dress uniform... how gay!

The US Navy IS planning on issuing a Blue Cammo BDU to replace the good old Dungaree Working Uniform.
I think it's absolutely FOOLISH... the Navy Blue coveralls and or the dungaree uniforms were just fine.

Too bad for us, but the Navy's new uniforms will be a blue/gray BDU. Totally useless and unnecessary on a ship but that's what the kids wanted.
Also, WE don't have an issue with any of our uniforms. We have tradition that we love being part of. Just because you civilians don't like them, that is your issue.

Navy has new uniforms coming out this coming year. One of them is blue BDUs. Kinda gay and cool at the same time.

There is no reason to wear cammo. In fact, on a flight deck of a carrier, the uniforms we wear signify what our job is, therefore it is easier to identify people by that.

on a ship cammo is useless unless you want to dodge doing work. But even then it would not be much good. hehe.
But honestly at sea blue cammo would be a huge disadvantage particularly if you fall over board, it would make it much harder to spot some one who blends in well with water.

Blue? Is that so they can't be seen if the are in the water? Wouldn't gray work better so they can blend in with the ship they are on? It would be so much harder for radar and heat seeking missiles to find them if the all blended in with the ships. I mean If any major navel battle to place today it would be very important for our sailors to blend in when the enemy would probably be as close as 100 miles away. Form follow es function.

Camoflage patterns are used to help military blend into their background. Since by definition sailors are supposed to be on board ship, they need to blend into the ship colors and the sea, not natural colors like on land. Cammo is useless on a ship.

they do not use that for camouflaging purposes .
after all surviving the ship sinking how would they feel in the green jungle or forest with their blue BDU?
maritime survival is about being VISIBLE. and maritime service is about grey, oldfashioned medium gray and stunning new gull grey.
