It all depends on the State you are applying in. So far there is no one National time period . It is usually 16 to 18 weeks and then one year on probation. During this probationary period you can be terminated for any small infraction. You are not protected by any union if there is one for your department. This time period is just the beginning, as a police officer every day and every radio call is a learning experience. Like life itself, we learn something new every day

Just depends on the police academy you go to. If you go full time I think it's 6 mths and if you go part-time its a year. Then you would most likely be on probation for a year with your police department. Your fto phase depends on the police department you apply with.
