I went from dial up to wireless internet connection. This is all that has changed but now when I download something it will not install or save. In yahoo mail it will download the pictures that are attached but will not open and save. My Yahoo messenger was acting up so I uninstalled it and downloaded it again but it never will go into the installation & setup program. I went to the Microsoft site and downloaded an update to Office. It downloaded and went through the installer..What do I need to do now?

There are a few things to check.

First of all, your internet connection cannot in itself be the problem. Are you sure that what you are saving isn't actually on your computer somewhere? Write down the file associations(saved to such and such folder, etc.) before you hit the actual save button so you can go back and check if they are there.

If it turns out that your computer truly isn't saving files, I suspect that the most likely culprit is your internet security. I am assuming that moving from dial-up to wireless you purchased a plan with a security suite? You are now using a network router? Check your security settings and make sure that they are set to prompt you before anything is blocked. It sounds as though currently your default "rules" are blocking downloads to your computer. When you set to prompt, you can have your internet security notify you before it blocks something, and you can then establish a "rule" to allow such a process if it is one, like a download, you want to allow.

Also, you should be using IE 7; this is a much better browser than IE 6, but it will also block things automatically. Make sure your browser isn't blocking downloads--it will prompt you at the top of the page when it blocks something. Your built-in IE 7 pop-up blocker could be blocking things as well, but both of these things should tell you when they block something. Go to your IE 7 options to make sure that your cookie settings and privacy settings are set to default; these also may be interfering.

Let me know how you fare, and good luck!

Hi

i would recommend that u restart your computer once & try again to install yahoo mssgr, if it fails then do a system restore to a point b4 installing yahoo mssgr & check if tht fixes ur problem. Or just upgrade to the latest yahoo mssgr 9.0.
