If we never educated our children and just let them play all day?

What kind of adults would they become?

Just letting our children play all day and not educated them would create morons. On the flip side I think kids have way too much homework these days. Mine our in 2nd grade and our lucky if the get a 25 minute recess. When they get home they have about an 1hrs worth of homework Mon-Thur. That's after a 6hr school day. When are these kids suppose to be kids.

Useless adults that are not valuable in today's work environment. Remember that 'childhood' is a relatively new cultural invention, created only a few hundred years ago, sometime around the pre-industrial/industrial era. The concept of 'childhood' is not entirely universal. Because we now live in an information era where education and mental competence is highly valued, children must be prepared for what is expected to them in today's economy. An illiterate, unintelligent person is not going to be able to acquire or sustain a well paying job. Furthermore, education allows us to be more aware of ourselves and those around us which in turn would make for a better world. Also, acquiring intelligence is something the young developing mind, or the child, can do much better than the adult. If a person doesn't use her mind when she is young, she has little to no hope of attaining a high level of education as an adult.
