Baptism is a very important part of being reborn as a Christian. It will not, of itself, cause anyone to be saved. However, if coupled with repentance and confession of one's belief in Christ as Lord and Savior, it is vitally important.

Baptism is for people who have received Jesus as their savior and is nothing to do with salvation or being born again! After one is saved, the act of baptism is an open testimony to the whole world that the new believer has identified them self with the death, burial and resurrection with the Lord. The act of baptism is also the scriptural means by which one is added to the church (membership) see Acts Ch.2 In John Ch.3 being born of water refers to our physical birth and being born of the Spirit refers to our spiritual birth. baptism is essential only if one wishes to serve the Lord as a good bible study will show that there is no service to the Lord which is acceptable outside of baptism

You should view baptism the same way as the Israelites viewed circumcision in the Old Testament. They are both a mark of being in the family of God. How important is that marking to you? Worth a commandment by Christ, perhaps?

It is essential for salvation, according to the teachings of the Lutheran church. It is the first place where we meet God and Christ Jesus. It is nothing that man does, it is truly a gracious gift from God. As a Sacrament, there is nothing symbolic about it!

From Luther's Cathechism:
What benefits does Baptism give?
It works forgiveness of sins, rescues from death and the devil, and gives eternal salvation to all who believe this, as the words and promises of God declare.

How can water do such great things?
Certainly not just water, but the word of God in and with the water does these things, along with the faith which trusts this word of God in the water. For without God's word the water is plain water and no Baptism. But with the word of God it is a Baptism, that is, a life-giving water, rich in grace, and a washing of the new birth in the Holy Spirit, as St. Paul says in Titus, chapter three: "He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by His grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. This is a trustworthy saying"
(Titus 3:5-8).

Holy Baptism is a Sacrament. Very, extremely important; right up there with partaking in the Eucharist.

Baptism is typically required for salvation.

Some would say otherwise. They would be very, very wrong.

Waste of time unless it's the persons decision themselves.

I was christened as a baby, and obviously not my decision. What a waste of time when I don't believe anyway. Well I suppose you could say I'm "saved" whether I like it or not lol

Protestant atheist :)

I don't know but I'll tell you what Jesus told us:
John 3:5
Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.
