Hello,
(ANS) The Police National Computer (PNC) contains information on all those people who were detained by the police. This can mean those people stopped for some reason, those who were questioned by the police, police reports on suspects, crime scene information, and specifically those who were formally arrested, and driver details are cross referenced with the DVLA database when vehicles are stopped.
The PNC contains a vast amount of data related to crimes or suspected criminal acts, all this data can be analyzed and the patterns of crimes can be helpful to the management of the police service as a whole. Why? because data analysis can be used to target limited financial resources i.e. more beat officers into specific areas , or more pander cars etc.
**More resources = lowering criminal activity in a specific area. Hence combating crime in a crude way perhaps?

Every thing now a days is in a computer. We have a National Computer Data base, DNA data base National fire arms Fugitive data bases, photo composits by computers, just about a data base for any thing related to the prevention, protection and apprehension of crime and criminals. We have on-board computers in the car. When ever you check a RMV plate, person, location every thing related to the inquiry, operator, criminal record, home address all pop up. Any radio calls to an address will tell us how many calls previous to this location, any warrants on persons at the local, any gun or dangerous or violence calls before will show up prior to arrival so that if back will be needed the dispatcher can see this and send other units. Most of the finger printing and photos are done by computer and automatically entered in the data base and prints are scanned for prior arrests or arrest under an alias before he placed in a cell. If you want to know who made an arrest the badge number or identification of the arresting officer will pop up. Telephone records, bank transactions, Sex offender registries, There is a lot more I could probably add to this answer but if you can imagine it,it is on the computer somewhere

Sharing information internationally is a mean to anti-crime.
Internal knowledge management can accelerate investigation and management and thus incrase efficiency.
Computer can also be used to tap you & me communication.
You also need computer to look at internet to locate every site against custom, e.g. shopping in eBay can local the deal of selling drug. Recently, DoJ has successfully persecute on-line Pharmacy, just because some police did a hard search or shopping in internet.
Besides those daily operation, computer is now also a tool of crimes and you need computer to talk with computers.
Also hackers and crackers always tried to crack the security system of your banks and credit cards, you need computer to trace those hackers and crackers.
In fact, police just part of the frontline for combating cyber-crime. In fact, the U.S. Airforce has a bigger play-role for global domination in cyber-world.

Receiving a one or two hang up calls each month is probably nothing to worry about, but when those calls increase in frequency and if it happens in the middle of the night then you must do something to stop it, before it starts affecting your life. With the help of this services you can take away the one advantage these people have - their anonymity.

computers have come far these days. we never thought it possible to carry our television sets in the palm of our hands. definitely computers have a lot to help the police to solve crimes. most rich countries makes use of cameras in their streets, with the computers, they can monitor the crimes and with the use of GPS, they can track down the criminals. this isn't much but there are more knowledgeable professionals who could help you here.
try watching CSI.. you'll get an idea.. hope this helps.

reverse phone number search compiles hundreds of millions of phone book records to help locate the owner's name, location, time zone, email and other public information.
Use a reverse phone lookup to:
Get the identity of an unknown caller.
Identify an area code.
Recall the name of a person whose number you wrote down.
Identify an unfamiliar phone number that shows up on your bill.

In the Cruiser, they provide access to DMV records, State Criminal record databases. GPS and 911 address guidance ect. etc. etc. At the station, add Federal criminal data bases and Fingerprint data bases to the above, along with Incident reporting and tracking programs.
