Just received a new 37 inch 1080i HD from Samsung. I've hooked up my XBox360 via a 5 pin digital AV cable which is switched to the 'HD' setting (changed Xbox settings to 1080i). The actual XBox 360 games look great, but I watched a DVD and it was blurred, and looked almost like a TV programme. When people moved it was especially blurry- and disappointing. Notably worse than my 6 year old standard TV which makes no sense!!

Is watching DVD's on an Xbox360 a no-no when it comes to HD tv's, is a HDMI connection necessary?

The ONLY way you'll know is to buy one....HDMI is faster than COMPONENT.

The SOURCE is important too...Were you using standard definition DVDs as your source or HD Dvds?

You can bet most problems are caused by poor bandwidth.
And HDMI is WIDE Bandwidth.....

Remember that a standard DVD contains video that will still play on a 1940's television.

Your xBox games push out the new 720 lines of information so they look great on a high def display. Since this does look good using the same AV cables - switching cables is likely to not make a difference.

(Now you know why so many of us are buying HD-DVD or BluRay players). These TV's expose how little information there really is in a standard def video.
