I think they should do away with the plates and use smaller engines at Daytona and 'Dega. Faster doesn't always mean better in racing, but they do need the torque to be able to catch and pass other cars, and the rp's take that away. But, that won't happen, so I wish they would use larger restricter plates.

I agree with jg. Take the plates off and use a smaller engine. The only problem is the expense of building a different engine for just 4 races. It would fix the racing in a pack and having no throttle response problem.
NASCAR did open up the plates a little this year on the COT race I thought. Maybe they closed them back when they saw the cars going faster in practice than they liked though.
I think the problem isn't so much just getting air in a wreck. It takes one really strong wall to stop a 3500 lb car at 200 mph. Increasing the speed to say 210-215 would really increase the impact. Safer car or not something has to take that hit and some of it will be the driver.

Take the plates completely off and let them run all out. These guys are pros and safety for the drivers has never been better. If their afraid to go 220mph, don't drive at the big tracks. The cars they have now have better aero than they did before, so they can find a way to give the car more grip. Talledega was boring with the COT, and unless you were up front, the cars were still bunched up. I'm looking forward to speed week at Daytona in 08.

I think they already increased the size of the plates for the fall Talladega race w/ the COT. It would be nice if they would increase them even more, though, or maybe go to a restrictor spacer like they use in the truck series, which is thicker and has conical shaped holes.

When the COT idea was first kicked around this was one of the points that was to be considered.NASCAR was to test the COT with and without restrictor plates as well as with different hole configurations.
When they are doing it is not released where has not been released and the teams involved have not been said.
So will NASCAR go to larger hole configurations or to no plates is still anyones guess. But I look for the change in the hole configurations.

Snake, looks like you are at the spa, are you having to rejuvenate after getting the mohawk?? I'd say go for it.. We just need to see more racing, that would definitely but more driving skills into play... Or heck just dump the plates, the COT was designed with safety in mind..No one likes single file racing until the last 25 laps come round then they start going for it and race each other especially at 'dega.

It was thoroughly disgusting watching Talla this year with the COT. You know when Jeff Gordon and a multitude of drivers complained about boredom while driving the race, that something is definitely amiss. I agree with changes for the better and once again we have changes by King France that are hindering instead of attracting fans. Talla was one race I wouldn't miss throughout the year but I will be this year!

Nice Avatar change Snake.......
I'm just not a huge fan of those cars flying around the track at a constant speed. I think they should bulldoze one end of the track to take away some of the banking. Make the drivers have to slow down....use some brake....some skill.... That in and of itself would break up the packs of cars. They could still get up to high speeds on the rest of the track, they'd just have to slow down for one corner.

Yes I say go for it!! If Bill Elliot could go 212.00+ 20 years ago and it took about 204.00+ to make the field---With the safety innovations like the safer barrier--Haans Device--Foam in the body panels between them and roll bars Plus the better tire Technology and smaller fuel tanks to add more pit stops HECK YES!!!!!!!!

Well I think it would make for some chilling, thrilling, racing
at Daytona and Talladega, they are gonna just increase
the size of the plate, right, that would be cool.
One more thing are you ashamed of your new MOHAWK
Hair cut?
