"Catholic" means universal,of interest, or use to all,all-embracing.Catholics believe in One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church.
You cannot trust the Bible for the answer ,for the simple reason there are too many interpretations from more than 50 Bibles.
Christ had promised the Apostles,"I will send you the Holy Spirit. He will be your Comforter."After Jesus left them, the Apostles were afraid. So they hid themselves in the little apartment of Mary. They prayed and waited for nine days. This was the first Novena. Then on Pentecost, over their heads, the Apostles saw parted tongues of fire.A tongue settled on each of their heads. The Holy Spirit had come.
This was the birthday of the Catholic Church.
Whose "Church Authority" shall we believe? I will leave that for you to decide. For me,there is no doubt whatsoever,it is the Catholic Church.(which is so hated by other Christians)

I actually think that both traditions trace back to St. Peter. Both believe they follow the apostolic tradition exactly, but they boh just have different interpretations of it.
I am Catholic, but I don't think the Orthodox Church would be the "wrong" tradition. Maybe there isn't a "right" religion. I like to think of it that way.

This know that in the last days perilous times shall come , for men shall be lovers of themselves , covetous ,
boasters , proud , blasphemers , disobedient to parents , unthankful , unholy , without natural affection ,
trucebreakers , false accusers , incontinent , fierce , despisers of those that are good , traitors , heady ,
high-minded , lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God , having a form of godliness but denying the power
of it ; from such turn away . For this of this sort are they who creep into houses and lead captive silly women
laden with sins , led away with various lusts , ever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth

We MUST follow what the Bible REALLY teaches and not the traditions of men.
Matthew 15:7-11 says . . .''YOU hypocrites, Isaiah aptly prophesied about YOU, when he said, 'This people honors me with their lips, yet their heart is far removed from me. It is in vain that they keep worshiping me, because they teach commands of men as doctrines.'" With that he called the crowd near and said to them: "Listen and get the sense of it: Not what enters into [his] mouth defiles a man; but it is what proceeds out of [his] mouth that defiles a man."''
Only worshiping God in truth can a person be acceptable to him.
John 4:23-24 . . .''Nevertheless, the hour is coming, and it is now, when the true worshipers will worship the Father with spirit and truth, for, indeed, the Father is looking for suchlike ones to worship him. God is a Spirit, and those worshiping him must worship with spirit and truth."
It is a person own choice , do they follow the TRUE GOD the way God wants, or the way that man wants.
The end result is NOT the same.
All roads don't lead to God.!

there is but one authority in Christianity-Jesus Christ...tradition is nothing more than the handing down of man-made rituals and customs...it makes for an orderly and superficially beautiful service, but does nothing to bring anyone closer to Him; Cristianity is not about following tradition, it's about following Him

as I far as I can see, the Catholic Church can trace back the lineage of their Pope to St. Peter, so IF ever I am going to be a Christian, I would be a Catholic.
