Everywhere on Y!A are atheists who post answers and start questions that express an unwarranted, inappropriate, and frankly sad hatred for Christians. Hating organized religion is no reason for you to profess your universal distaste for anyone who follows it. You may not see it this way, but it makes you look bigoted and ignorant. Making accusations towards Christians as a group, even if they're based on truth, is hateful and wrong, just like the accusations that Christians make towards us.
Do I think that Christians, and indeed all theists, are misguided? Yes!
Do I hate them? Of course not. I think you'll find that, if you are tempered in your questions, tempered answers will always dominate the responses.

Of course this post is mostly aimed towards atheists, for I feel I have the right to tell them this. However, evangelizing is also a problem on Y!A, and the Christians need to learn that a lot of people just find it irritating. Thankfully, evangelizing and Bible-quoting posts are more common than hateful anti-atheist posts, but these do exist, and I'd be lying if I said that I don't burn a little every time I see one.
We're supposedly all here to learn, right? Well, let's learn. Let's debate. Hell, let's argue and get emotional about it. But let's not turn ourselves into something we would never want to be.
I invite everyone, from every religion, including the AM, to post in this thread and say why they would love to see more peace, or why they refuse to make peace.
Just for one moment, In this one thread, let us 'join hands,' as the saying goes, and remember our love for the people we come here to debate with.

Collector of Sorrows: I'm terribly sorry if that little phrase was offensive to you; it was just a way to connect myself with those atheists who make offensive posts. I do think that theists are misguided, but instead of hating them for it, I talk to them about it. Usually I present arguments for an opposed opinion. Sometimes I am even supportive of them, such as someone who asks for others to pray for them in a rough time. Especially here on Y!A where people are supposed to expect it of me anyway

Betty Boop: Strong responses towards Christians and theists do have their place, but a lot of atheists around here are nedlessly rude. Usually it's better to just remember that you are the bigger person in the conversation.
Then again, I've seen your posts, and you don't usually seem to be the bigger person in the conversation.
I'm not saying that all Christian opinions shoudl be accepted and that we should never criticize other people's beliefs. I am saying, however, that people like you add to the problem of people's perceptions of atheists, something which I'm sure you chafe against. Calling me a "Christian Sympathizer" is just icing on the cake.

You know what? I think this is one of the best posts I've seen in a long time, even despite the fact that you think I'm...how did you put it?...misguided.
I agree with you other than that. It's okay for everyone to disagree, but this spewing of hatred needs to stop. From ALL sides!
Believe it or not, I also agree with you about the Bible quoting. I've been saying for a long time that Christians (including myself) should only quote the Bible when it's relevant to the question.
Kudos for you. Have a star.

I was once Christian, then I became Agnostic, then I became Atheist, and now I am back to Agnostic. So yes I would just like to be at "peace" with the other side (whatever that may be) I would just really like to know the truth and have this put to rest once and for all.
I do agree with you about some Atheists comments towards Christians, but Christians do the same as well. It is easy to judge a belief that is different from your own. I'm sick of seeing the hateful things that both groups say to each other.

I don't hate a single christian.
I also do not accuse, or try to make anyone feel poorly about themselves as some do.
Even atheists can do unto others as they would have done unto them...lol
Well, some can
I try to answer and ask good questions to make people think. Some don't agree with me and that is fine. What I don't appreciate is the constant HAPPY threats etc that are aimed towards me because I don't believe in a god...

War in the world is mostly due to religion the sooner all these supper powers and religious leaders get together and say a religion is a persons own beliefs and what they preach is for them and them alone every one should be left alone to carry out their own beliefs and no one should say that one god is better than another when in fact god is who you seem him as he doesn't look like any one he is a figure of your culture and race he is the same man so stop war over religion now and live in peace with your god it is his teachings so do it now Dave

Most Atheists fully understand Christianity and don't really have any beef with the religion, just the followers that condemn them to hell for not having the same belief as they do.

I do love everyone! Even atheist, however for the past week I have seen many mean, rude and nasty comments from many atheists saying a lot of unnecessary things in response to questions or comments. In fact theirs have been some of the meanest comments I have seen in this forum. Many profane. Please understand that even Christians can become angry too sometimes. That's what promted my response.

Peace would be lovely. Tolerance is a blessing. In fact, don't most religions say "love thy neighbour" or hate is bad, love is good? I'm not religious at all, but I'm a spiritual being having a human experience. I say viva la difference.

The last part is true, and I agree with it not only because Jesus said it, but because I've seen it happen a lot.
Peace here, from me unto you, from this Christian

i really dont like religion-bashers. you should just accept the other persons religion wether you believe in it or not. i am a christian, but have friends from other relitions. yes i do invite them to church with me, but moreso the ones who just dont go to church, instead of ones who already have set religions in their lives

that might be nice...
but it's never going to happen.
Jesus said that [ not exact words; in gospel ] he came to the earth, not to make peace, but to separate ppl. He would separate households, mothers from daughters, etc,
bc of belief in him.
