If you are IN the military you don't get to resign. If you are enlisted you get to finish your contract. If you are an officer you can resign sort of, only if they accept your resignation and that is a big if right now.

Since your question is in the Military section of Yahoo I assume that you'd like to resign from the military. Sorry, can't be done unless you're a high-ranking officer or noncom already passed your 20 years of service.

Umm...folks, he's not in the military. He makes no reference to being in the military and if he was he know that you dont "resign" from the military.
I'm not sure why he would post a question with only those five words.

find another job before so you know you can keep a pay rate steady. then giv your notice of you resigning. resigning on good terms will allow you to put that job as a referance. then go apply to other places

Don't copy some answers from here. Not atleast from the user who wrote you a good resignation!

Who knows your boss might be here. Yahoo! is popular these days!

Best thing for you would probably be to do the service you signed up for.
If there's a reason you should be given the OK to go, go tell your CO about it and try your luck. These days though, you're likely to be told no.
I've seen guys do all kinds of BS trying to get out, and usually they only succeed at making their lives more miserable than they already were. Only one guy I saw actually put out and he got a criminal record with it.

Are you enlisted??? I don't think that is possible. You are best off just finishing your enlistment and getting your honorable discharge. This will look better when you look for employment than having to explain a general or bad conduct discharge to a prospective employer. Use your free time to research possible careers and get your name out to people so if you decide to get out you will be able to go right into a job.

If you need to find another job first, then you should. When your ready, write an email / letter that's positive, but let's them know that your leaving - or if your comfortable with your boss, and emails not an option, have the conversation with them. Positive at first, what you enjoyed about the position, and then the reason why you are leaving the company. You want to leave on a good note so that they will give you a positive reference.

If you are in the military...it is not going to be as easy as one might think....however it can be done...First you need to talk to your supervisor...or a First-Shirt...You can be separated from the military for a hardship...but you will have to prove some sort of hardship first. By taking a hard-ship...discharge...it will not tarnish your discharge code...another words if you have no major descrepancies you will still get out with an honorable discharge....Follow your chain-of-command and you will be fine and will be able to find all the answers that you are looking for.
